4 Proofs the USDA Doesn’t Care About Your Health

“The USDA instead continues to not only go against public interest, but recklessly endanger the public with unacceptable and outright ludicrous policies that threaten your health on a routine basis.”

Despite being tasked to defend public health, the USDA instead continues to not only go against public interest, but recklessly endanger the public with unacceptable and outright ludicrous policies that threaten your health on a routine basis. Perhaps most compelling is the fact that not only does the USDA allow for the widespread use of GMO crops, which have been pinpointed by scientific research as harmful to your health, but the USDA has now announced that they will be extraditing the approval process for these genetically modified creations.

What’s more, the organization actually said that one major hurdle they had to face when speeding up the regulation process — which cuts the regulatory time period in which GMO crops are studied for safety in half — was public interest. Does this sound like an organization that actually cares about your health? Here are 4 proofs that the USDA cares more about securing corporate profits than your health.

1. USDA Chooses Monsanto Sales Over Public Safety

Could it be possible that the USDA is actually turning a blind eye to the known adverse effects of Monsanto’s GMO crops, such as organ damage, in order to secure Monsanto’s growth and subsequent sales? In the original Bloomberg report announcing that the USDA was giving a ‘special’ speed review for Monsanto’s future crops, experts explained that the move was to secure the financial future of Monsanto — not to help farmers, citizens, or the United States.

Steve Censky, chief executive officer of the American Soybean Association, states it quite plainly. This is a move to help Monsanto and other biotechnology giants get an edge over competition.

It is a concern from a competition standpoint,” Censky said in a telephone interview.

The same statements are re-iterated by analyst Jeff Windau in the same interview:

“If you can reduce the approval time, you get sales that much faster,” said Windau

If you can reduce the approval time, then you can get sales much faster – an act of sacrificing legitimate safety measures for corporate gain.

2. USDA Ignores Pesticide Suspect in Dwindling Bee Population

Bees are at the core of our agricultural system, so with the news that they are dying off quite quickly, you would think that the USDA would do everything in its power to get to the root of the problem. This, of course, is not the case. While there have been a number of theories behind the downfall of the bee population, one leaked document revealed that a bee-killing pesticide put in use by the EPA may be to blame. Further records show that the USDA was fully aware of this fact, and just let it happen.

Amazingly, the USDA also knew the pesticide was a threat to human health. Still, they did nothing.

3. Mutant Insects? No Way, Monsanto’s GMO Corn is Perfectly Safe

Mutant insects don’t seem to bother the USDA either. Despite reports — including one by the EPA — that Monsanto’s Bt crops are spawning heavily resistant ‘mutated’ insects, the USDA continues to allow these crops on your dinner table. Bt is a ‘biopesticide‘ toxin incorporated into genetically modified crops in order to kill different insects, though it is highly ineffective. At least 8 populations of insects have developed resistance, with 2 populations resistant to Bt sprays and at least 6 species resistant to Bt crops as a whole.

As a result, significantly more pesticides must be used to make up for the failed GMO crops.

4. USDA Approves New Monsanto Corn Despite 45,000 Comments in Opposition

In a move that really shows that the USDA doesn’t care about what you have to say (the very individuals the organization was created to work for), the organization recently approved Monsanto’s ‘drought tolerant’ genetically engineered corn despite massive opposition. They gave the green light to Monsanto despite receiving nearly 45,000 public comments voicing opposition and only 23 comments in favor since comments opened.

the only answer is Ron Paul.

the only answer is Ron Paul. Anytime you have a mountain of cash your going to find men willing do anything for it. Personal liberty, decentralized government, ending the EPA, USDA, FED etc.. are the ticket. Its time!

The zombies win again!

The zombies win again!

Interesting that all you talk

Interesting that all you talk about is the USDA not getting in the way of business, when the biggest threat is almost certainly the sugar quotas that cause American firms to use HFCS instead of sugar. So why the bias against free trade?

Ultimately, genetically

Ultimately, genetically engineered crops and the food products made from them represent the height of human hubris and malfeasance. Like the destructive financial instruments known as derivatives and credit default swaps that were unleashed on the market with little knowledge as to their deleterious effects, genetically engineered crops and food products are being unleashed on the environment and the market with little or no understanding of how these instruments will effect the complex web of life and the health and safety of the planet. The self-serving, greed and profit-driven assurances and corporate-financed studies of the industries promoting these products do not pass the objectivity standards required for such decisions. Instead, the U.S. should be promoting, both at home and abroad, organic, sustainable farming practices that over time, actually out-perform the short-term gains of the chemically-intensive farming practiced by agribusiness interests, and improve the environment rather than degrade it.

Obama is a "nice guy" but

Obama is a "nice guy" but impossibly naive. I can never forget his words on the campaign trail in 2008: "I believe with every fiber of my being that we as Americans can come together...." and more stuff about bipartisanship. He still hasn't learned that any decent initiatives are in a fight to the death with the powers that be. He acknowledged openly that he did not know a lot about economics. His approach was to surround himself with those who appeared to be "experts": that's we got the crew that's running the show now. Same thing is happening with environmental issues. He doesn't seem to understand that there are two dramatically opposed sides to all these issues, and that the opposition leadership is greedy, selfish and ruthless and successfully brainwashes many who don't take the trouble to research issues.

Why does Obama not care about

Why does Obama not care about our basic food supply - or the availability and cost of energy? Why does he want to poison our food, restrict our use of natural resources, bring in foreign workers to take our jobs (H1B & Illegal Aliens) and tax us and give that money to the UN?

Never before have the American People had a White House Occupier they know so little about - appearing out of nowhere into the political scene like a genie out of a bottle to serve his master. And don't you wonder who the master is and what he wants?

Wake up America.

"they will be extraditing the

"they will be extraditing the approval"
...surly you mean expediting !

seems you need an editor and i need a job.

Typo in the first paragraph:

Typo in the first paragraph: extraditing should be expediting. Can you fix this?

No. To be marked 'organic' it

No. To be marked 'organic' it has to be non GMO.

not in the u.s.

not in the u.s.

The USDA is not there to care

The USDA is not there to care about or to protect our health. Once the Supreme Court first ruled that corporations trumped citizens in the case (Santa Clara, CA vs. Southern Pacific R.R. - 1886)...corruption within Congress and the government began to escalate to the massive collusion between government and corporations we have today.

If a pesticide is to blame

If a pesticide is to blame for the bee population issue then that falls into the area of management of the EPA. That agency is all-powerful so if that is the issue then I would suspect that the EPA would be all over it. That group has attempted to implode the oil/gas industry, auto industry, ruined many manufacturing companies, etc... Thus I am not so sure a pesticide is to blame -- most likely mites, fungus and other invading diseases because we allow anything and anyone to enter our country.

you are sadly uninformed.

you are sadly uninformed. Whether EPA, or any other agency, they have all been gutted as far as caring for humans or the planets. The only few that might get detoured in business are small business persons harassed by a myriad of laws, the corporations simply do not follow the rules and could care less. Just look at the BP oil spill. Look at some of the data regarding how much that cost American tax payers, and still BP is going strong, and making commercials about how green and humane they are. Ask a few million dead fish, animals and humans we can never count because they ate tainted marine products. NO mites, your are really uninformed.

If the USDA doesn't regulate

If the USDA doesn't regulate the term ORGANIC then anyone can create a product and market it as ORGANIC... there has to be some standards to that term. If you want to use the ORGANIC label then follow the standards set forth and allow inspections.

No. If something is marked as

No. If something is marked as 'organic' it has to be non GMO. But, if something is marked 'natural' is could contain GMOs.

@ANTHONY GUCCIARDI You forgot

@ANTHONY GUCCIARDI

You forgot the final proof, which is ironic and not always obvious.

USDA efforts to control all organic food and claim ownership of the word "ORGANIC". They won't allow people to use the word "organic" to describe their home-grown, organic foods at farmers' markets and similar unless they have gone through the expensive certification process, which for small producers is simply out of the question.

This basically is showing that every time you buy "USDA ORGANIC" (and we have little choice if we want to avoid GMOs) we are further supporting the USDA to keep doing what they are doing - on the one hand, cashing in on whatever watered-down organics are left now and in the future (under THEIR CONTROL), and on the other hand, supporting the huge corporations with their monoculture GMO crops that are going to destroy what is left of our health.

Hey guys I wish these

Hey guys I wish these discussions wouldn't devolve into right wing vs. left wing rhetoric. Eating the garbage that Monsanto is producing causes cancer and other ill effects in right and left wing people. The problem is that the justice system is so clearly bought and owned by Monsanto and this corporation has mastered the art of winning court cases.

This is where the action has to start. We have to figure out what is happening in court. Are they making the argument that "there is no evidence" that these crops cause cancer? That would be hard to prove. My thought is that the test results are skewed.

Bottom line. Monsanto has to stop winning these cases. Period.

Well, so far, mostly I see

Well, so far, mostly I see right-wingers pushing for more corporate power, and profits and so you need to own it.

Monsanto has about a million times more in financial and legal resources to win any case they like, against poorly paid prosecutors and even poorer clients, ie, the 99%. So, while I like your bottom line, seems to me a pipe dream if we don't get rid of the fascist alliance (takeover really) between business and government.

Business exists for one purpose: Make money, grow shareholder value. Period. Any responsibility to the public welfare is way down the priority list, if present at all.

Government exists for one purpose: To protect and defend the individual rights and freedoms of the American people. Government often performs services that are not, inherently, profitable. Like police, fire, and emergency services, education, defense, and the like. Oh, and healthcare should be on that list, as well, as in most of the rest of the industrialized world. No wonder we can't compete on labor costs, when most governments finance healthcare with a single payer system.

So, really, what we have is a mingling of these huge powers that are designed to counterbalance one another. Government MUST regulate corporations and be provided enforcement resources, in order for our country to function as intended.

To the party that wants to "shrink govt to the size of a bathtub and drown it", there's nowhere to run, really.

The bottom line my friend is

The bottom line my friend is the guy who appointed Monsantos VP as Senior Advisor to the FDA. If your not sure who that was , his name is Obama

I know! I agree! Obama also

I know! I agree! Obama also appointed Hank Paulson as Secretary of Finance after his company Goldman Sachs and the other banks destroyed the US financial system!

I have no answer or words to describe the stupidity of these 2 appointments. Hank Paulson should be in jail and Micheal Taylor should be taught the fundamentals of nutrition. I think he forgot them.

I'm afraid to say that I have to agree that Obama dropped the friggin' ball there. BUT that said any republican solution I have seen is more of the same crap that got us here. If the US were a real democracy representing 300 million people there would be way more than the 2 parties aptly named Dumb (democrats) and Dumber (republicans aka corporate lackeys!).

how about Kucinich? he seems

how about Kucinich? he seems to be the only honest one left

Excuse me, freedomfighter.

Excuse me, freedomfighter. There has been action and publication from the left about Michael Taylor. For I have signed several interent petitions about it, from different progressive groups.

so why isn't it here ? Why is

so why isn't it here ? Why is there not more dialouge about it amongst the left, it's like their "dirty little secret" We dont want to admit we elected a guy who's in bed with Wall Street and on the take with Corporate America. Mitt Romney's a breath of fresh air to this guy, he at least is truthful about being in bed with Wall Street. I admire his honesty.

PS: Marie, your even doing it

PS: Marie, your even doing it yourself "There has been action and publication from the left about Michael Taylor ." Why are you omitting the fact that he was appointed by Obama ?

Extraditing? You of course

Extraditing?
You of course mean "expediting." Learn proofreading.

I didn't see your catch when

I didn't see your catch when I wrote mine just now. I wonder how he let extraditing slip by.

Ask me why I'm not

Ask me why I'm not surprised!!

Why is there no talk or

Why is there no talk or reporting from the left of Obama appointing Michael Taylor who is the VP of Monsanto as Senior Advisor to the FDA, this boggles the mind,do you people have blinders on. You'll scream at Fox news for biased reporting, why not scream at Nation of Change for not mentioning this fact ? I'm waiting for an answer.

There has been much talk and

There has been much talk and reporting and Facebooking and blogging on Michael Taylor's appointment. A crime against the American people, in my view.

Perhaps you didn't see it, FreedomFighter, but the left is sorely disappointed in many of Obama's actions and appointments. He seems to have sold out long ago, or else is incredibly naive and idealistic. Nonetheless, when I look over at the woman-haters and wealthy folks on the other side, that frightens me.

Because sadly this has been

Because sadly this has been going on long before Obama became our president. He is just following right along.

There are a lot of high ups making a lot of money. To control the food supply domestically and world wide, which Monsanto is now doing, is very scary!

reminds me of "Soylent Green"

reminds me of "Soylent Green"

This clearly shows who is

This clearly shows who is boss in this country, and it ain't the President.
I believe Obama DID honestly have good motives going into this thing....his wife clearly has her quiet way of showing it too, on the sidelines, but he is small fry, a puppet. Those who pull the strings have told him who to appoint.

Yeah,and his name is

Yeah,and his name is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Agreed. But note that MSNBC

Agreed. But note that MSNBC was all over that right away.
Facts are, the left often attacks itself on issues like this. Rethugs march in lockstep regardless....
