Far from being a chaotic war zone, a study of the 14 Texas counties bordering Mexico shows that the number of murders has actually declined in the past five years.

Border War Rumors

Article image

Grim-faced military officers and ashen-faced politicians describe a horrific "war zone," with "hundreds of people murdered" and "citizens under attack around the clock." Some of the politicos say that the situation is so dire that it "may require our military."

Like the frenetic Bush-Cheney litany of lies that rushed America into the senseless Iraq War, what we're now getting is a similar burst of mendacity about Mexican drug violence spilling across the border into our country. Rick Perry, the Texas gubernatorial goober, is even trying to make it a presidential campaign issue. "It is not safe on that border," he recently wailed to New Hampshire Republicans, suggesting that he might send U.S. troops into Mexico "to kill these drug cartels."

Adding to this macho melodrama, two retired Army generals produced a "study" asserting that spillover violence makes the U.S. side "tantamount to living in a war zone."

One of the ex-generals is Barry McCaffrey, the infamous, hyperventilating fearmonger who once was America's drug czar. At a press conference, McCaffrey pointed excitedly to "hundreds of people murdered on our side of the frontier."

Really? Hundreds murdered? No.

His source turned out to be a South Texas rancher full of anecdotes about dead bodies found in the brush. But the Border Patrol says these were unlucky immigrants who perished during the past several years trying to enter our country, not recent victims of Mexican cartels. In fact, far from being a chaotic war zone, a study of the 14 Texas counties bordering Mexico shows that the number of murders there has actually declined in the past five years.

Rumors of a Mexican cartel war in the United States are nothing but lies by self-serving political opportunists and self-aggrandizing military contractors out to line their pockets.

ABOUT Jim Hightower
National radio commentator, writer, public speaker, and author of the book, Swim Against The Current: Even A Dead Fish Can Go With The Flow, Jim Hightower has spent three decades battling the Powers That Be on behalf of the Powers That Ought To Be - consumers, working families, environmentalists, small businesses, and just-plain-folks.

American voters must be among

American voters must be among the most ignorant voters in the world. They keep voting in Republicans or Democrats who are bank rolled by the same elite who have been tag-team raping them for years.

They can't see that the same 1% who rape them are the same 1% who rape the undocumented.

Failed immigration is created and designed by the elite who run both governments. This is no different than failed mortgages, failed health care, loss of jobs, and our failing economy. This insidious 1% causes these failures because they profit at the expense of both the US taxpayers and the Mexican undocumented.

Are American voters really so propagandized that they can't figure out why not one single U.S. politician criticizes the Mexican government for anything? The undocumented would not come or stay here if that filthy, corrupt co-trading partner of the American elite would take care of its own citizens. The majority of undocumented care deeply about their families and would stay at home if they could make a decent living wage working with their families.

Its about bi-national drug profits, trade, oil, remittances, the privatization of prisons, cheap labor, weapons profit, NAFTA, and a 40 year long political platform that only sways back and forth, and never forward.

I invite OWS to embrace the undocumented who are protesting. Shame on both these pitiful governments who fail to address the immigration nightmare that they profit from.

Sorry, Jim, but you sound

Sorry, Jim, but you sound like a dumb, proud Texan. We hire laborers in south Texas, and I can tell you anecdote after anecdote about how the authorities you berate are absolutely right.
Furthermore, just look at the big picture. Texas is a third world state inside the US. San Antonio looks a whole lot more like Mexico City than Kansas City - and it has nothing to do with race. South Texas is incredibly poor, stratified, and corrupt. It won't be long before the cartels own Texas' cops and judges, too. Keep dreaming that drug prohibition is not a problem....

Crime has always being

Crime has always being prevalent along the border. Just because Mexico is trying to cut down on drug cartels just like we did during the Capone days.

That is the problem. With

That is the problem. With all the media controlled by the 1%, they fall for it again and again. I believe also that it is hard for people with a moral compass to comprehend just what lying muck run this country. They couldn't believe it if they actually saw it, as everyone has been brainwashed into believing America wears a white hat and true democracy is practiced here. We are in a very sad immoral state. Money and power is the name of the game, and if you have none, your are nothing- literally.

Mr. Hightower predictably

Mr. Hightower predictably failed to mention the ongoing "Fast and Furious" scandal involving the Obama administration. The Justice Department, in conjunction with the BATF, sent literally thousands of untraceable automatic assault weapons to selected Mexican drug gangs. This is nothing new - as Obama's predecessor GW Bush did the same thing.

However, to make this look like GOP knee jerking regarding a potential border war is nothing more than clever obfuscation of the greater reality - our own government is actively involved in arms sales to drug gangs, along with drug trafficking.

That is the real "border war". To date, the casualty list is 34,000 dead Mexicans, along with several dead US Border Patrol Agents and American citizens.

Additionally, there have been reports of both drug gangs and Mexican troops firing upon US Border Patrol Agents. I guess Mr. Hightower forgot to mention that, too.

This war continues to grow and now there are sections of southern Arizona that have been designated by local law enforcement as too dangerous for American citizens to travel within.

When the crap really hits the fan down there someday, we'll see how Mr. Hightower responds. I suspect it will take several thousand dead Americans before he decides to take notice.

In the meantime, he'll just continue to attack republicans while democrats in the White House and DOJ serve the interests of the bankers and drug lords.

Everyone needs to stop using

Everyone needs to stop using as an argument the old Republican versus Democrat crap. They are one in the same, just a different name. They all are following the agenda of- one world government. If you don't believe this then you need to do some research. It is clearly in your face now. They make it look like there is two parties because that makes you feel like you have some control, that your vote counts. How could there be any 'real change' when all they do is select former administrative cabinet members when they get into office. But you continue to think your vote counts.... Our 'bought and paid for' elected officials serve the elite 1%. We are sinking and none of them have the intestinal fortitude to stand up and be a moral human being who cares about the masses suffering. Prepare, help Ron Paul get elected , and get involved locally anywhere.

The only thing RP makes some

The only thing RP makes some sense about is military policy. As for the rest, he doesn't give a rat's ass about the masses' pain and suffering. He expects the mythical "free market" to cure all ills. He can claim he cares until the cows come home, but he's not prepared to do anything about it, as he defers to the "invisible hand". He doesn't need to be "bought and paid for". He's already on the side of those who would be buying him, again, with the exception of the M.I.C.. His policies would give free rein to the elite 1%.

This IS a Republican vs. Democrat thing. Granted, they are far too close together in many aspects, but it is not the D's that insist on grinding the 99% into oblivion in service to the 1%. The D's dare not offend the 1% but, unlike the R's, they don't brazenly, blatantly and with gusto go out of their way to destroy the 99%. It isn't the D's who insist on destroying the social safety net. It isn't the D's that advocate ruthless and unfettered Laissez Faire capitalism. The "I got mine, fuck you" attitude is not the overwhelming philosophy of the D's. The militarism, moralism, xenophobia, nationalism and downright callousness on display in the R presidential candidate debates as well as in the Teabagger agenda has no equal in Democratic circles.

To say there are far too few differences between the D's and R's may be true. To draw a false equivalence between them is ridiculous.

There's an old saying, and it's true: "A Democrat will pick your pocket for a nickel. A Republican will kill you for it."

I agree 100%. I was pointing

I agree 100%. I was pointing out the partisan bickering that people like Hightower like to promote. He's obviously stuck in the left-right paradigm myth. We all need to take the red pill and wake up. The CFR and Trilateral Commission control BOTH political parties in this country and they push the same agenda.

The grim reality is that even viable, honest politicians like Ron Paul won't get a fair shake as long as the mainstream media remains in the grip of the elitist controlled corporations. The media's agenda is synonymous with the power structure that promotes endless wars for global hegemony while incrementally ramping up a police state here in America.

We are all in this together and until we change the system, we continue to see compromised puppets in the White House while our hard won liberties are incrementally taken away from us.

War and rumors of war.......

War and rumors of war....... How dumb would the American public have to be to fall for that again, and so soon after the last time?

We have some pretty dumb

We have some pretty dumb people over here. They only believe what faux news tell them!
