Chris Hedges talks about the role Harvard University played in the economic collapse.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges answers questions from the students of Occupy Harvard outside the gated Harvard Yard encampment in Cambridge, Monday November 28, 2011.
“The title of the meeting gives away the real political intent: ‘The Obama Administration’s Green Energy Gamble: What Have All The Taxpayer Subsidies Achieved?’”
“On Wednesday, CEOs of 18 of the nation’s largest companies sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner objecting to the proposal to raise the 15 percent tax rate on dividends and capital gains for households making more than $200,000 ($250,000 if married).”
“Romney has come out strongly against same-sex marriage. He’s also against abortion. He has no problem with government intruding on the most intimate of decisions a person makes.”

Finally, sorry to hog the blog, but the observation that human progress towards a utopia is unrealistic has been documented by Mr. Hedges in War is a Force that Gives us Meaning, when he explains that throughout history, and into the future, economic collapse has, and will always inevitably lead to the emesis of villains such as Milosevic, Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Tudjman, Viola and Galtieri.
Regarding the comment that there will never be change, there was change when Slobodan Milosevic was brought down in Yugoslavia, there was change when Adolf Hitler was brought down in Germany, there was change after the death of Joseph Stalin, there was change after the fall of the juntas in Argentina, and there will be change after the rise and fall of the American christian fascist movement that will follow the complete economic collapse of America.
Please read War is a Force that Gives us Meaning, or for that matter, all of Chris Hedges works.
Regarding the comment that Mr. Hedges should be OWS leader, the structure of OWS is one where individuals rotate through roles of leadership, thus creating a structure that is very difficult to influence and infiltrate, which is what Mr. Hedges believes sets OWS apart from other movements and protests. I believe Mr. Hedges' role is to speak to the people and share his vast knowledge and progressive thought patterns. Inspiring progressive thought leads to progressive actions.

Mr. Hedges is brought to tears as he thanks a gentleman at OWS.
Also, please read Death of the Liberal Class, and for that matter, all of Mr. Hedges works.
Begin the economic boycott, free yourself from consumerism and material goods, and prepare for the impending collapse by becoming self sufficient and educated.
Chris is a terrific writer and thinker and observer, but rolling around in the back of his mind but not ever reaching his fingertips and the computer has to be the observation that human progress is a myth because of the simple, observable fact that the good guys, JFK, Martin Luther KIng, RFK, are all shot by the bad guys! From our revolution, to Russia's, China's, Cuba's it was clear they were not, as Mao said, tea parties; so, until the good guys, as Hamlet pondered, 'take up arms against a sea of troubles,' and physically get to the very obvious bad guys first, we will all find, as Obama sadly did, that there will NEVER BE CHANGE!

It seems pointless to continue pleading with reps that have their campaigns paid by special interests.
Little of consequence will happen until influence peddling is removed from the election process. It's all well and good to comment about an issue that needs the attention of citizens. It's even more important to ACTUALLY DO something significant that will allow necessary changes to be made to improve our country.

Do you think Harvard is corrupt because it is particularly different -- more rich, more prestigious, better-endowed -- than others in higher ed?
Or is it corrupt because it shares the same habits, only more famously so, as the rest of corporate academe?
