Commemoration to be Hosted at 9/ll Memorial
Today, in honor of eleventh anniversary of 9/11, the city of New York will host a commemoration ceremony at the 9/11 memorial to remember the 3,000 people who lost their lives on that tragic day.
The memorial, unveiled last year, is located at the World Trade Center site, formerly the location of the Twin Towers. The centerpieces of the memorial are massive twin waterfalls and pools, each an acre wide, built into the foundations of the now vanished towers. Edging the two enormous bodies of water are two bronze tablets that contain the names of every person who perished in the terrorist attacks. A grove of swamp white oaks surrounds the memorial, creating an atmosphere of ponderous tranquility in the otherwise busy city.
The commemoration will occur at 8:30am, EST, at the World Trade Center site, located at 1 Albany St. New York, NY. The event will also be webcasted on the memorial website at http://www.911memorial.org/.
