FDA Pushes to Release Genetically Modified Salmon into Environment

The very genetic coding of the planet is no longer held sacred, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration. The agency is now pushing for the release of genetically modified salmon called ‘frankenfish’ to be unleashed across the globe, threatening the genetic integrity of the entire animal kingdom.

Mutated by scientists to grow twice as fast as a normal salmon through the manipulation of the animal’s genetic code, the genetically modified salmon created by the company AquAdvantage was actually blocked for approval by Congress back in 2011 due to serious health concerns. In the report regarding the ban on the approval of the genetically modified salmon by Huffington Post, it is quite clearly spelled out how the FDA-backed mega company AquaAdvantage only cares about losing investors and profits — not the serious public health concerns.

Health Not a Priority: Genetically Modified Salmon Maker ‘Frustrated‘ Salmon Not Yet Unleashed Due to ‘Loss of Investors’

As the report details, AquaAdvantage head Ron Stotish had this to say about being blocked due to serious health concerns:

“He said, he is frustrated by the delay and has lost investors in his business…”

Poor Ron Stotish! This chief executive has lost investors! Never mind the fact that the GM salmon could proverbially ‘muddy’ the genetic ‘waters’ of nature, or cause unknown health issues in humans. No, that isn’t important. What’s important to Mr. Stotish is the loss of profits. Since 1991, AquaAdvantage pumped in over $67 million to develop this fish, and they are not going to stop fighting until it’s on your dinner plate.

Thankfully, Stotish has the FDA to proclaim how great genetically modified food is as usual. Ignoring the 37 diseases that Roundup is associated with and discounting all of the information linking GMOs to health concerns is ‘scientific’, after all. Even mild critics of the ‘frankenfish’ salmon argue that it could at the very least cause allergies in humans, let alone be unleashed into the wild and disrupt the genetic coding of fish for all future generations.

The genetically modified salmon contains both a gene from the Pacific Chinook salmon that causes the fish to produce growth hormone 24/7, as well as a gene derived from an eel-like fish that triggers the hormone production. This causes the fish to reach around 6.6 pounds instead of the average 2.8 pounds. It also reaches 24 inches instead of 13.

FDA Says GMOs Safe, Natural Foods Dangerous

The fact of the matter is that numerous heads of the FDA have a deep (or even current) history with biotech giants like Monsanto. People like Michael R. Taylor, the current Deputy Commissioner for Foods at the FDA, was actually a Vice President at Monsanto. This is the same man that led an assault and subsequent shutdown of the largest organic peanut butter factory. Meanwhile, tumor-linked GMOs roam free.

And so will this genetically modified salmon unless activism prevails against the FDA and AquaAdvantage.

But in the event that these GM salmon are unleashed, how will you know if you’re eating GM salmon? After all, US citizens eat more than 650 million pounds of salmon each year. As you may have guessed, the FDA says that the genetically modified salmon does not need to labeled as it’s the ‘same’ as regular salmon.

The fact of the matter is that this criminal organization must be stopped before the genetic coding of plants and animals worldwide is irreversibly contaminated. As biotech corporations with billions in funding begin to alter animals after already manipulating 80 plus percent of just about every staple crop, the fight for genetic preservation will continue.

It won't be hard to tell

It won't be hard to tell whether you are eating GMO salmon, especially not after a year or two after the Frankenfish are released, for these giant fish will out-compete and exterminate the native wild fish. Then everyone will know that if they are eating salmon, they are eating GMO salmon. Time to empty your swimming pool, fill it with freshwater, and try to stalk it with wild salmon, before these greedy bastards release the franken fish, if you value the wild salmon genome. Too bad that jury-rigged watery ark probably won't work for the wild salmon.

Reply: It is very unlikely

Reply:
It is very unlikely that there will be any affect on the native salmon population even if a few modified fish escape from fish farms. Natural selection has operated over thousands of generations to determine the optimum size and growth rate for wild species. If there had been any selective advantage in the characteristics transmitted to the commercial fish, mutations would have installed them in the wild genome long ago.

I would be less concerned about the dangers in eating these engineered fish than about dosing on the many "natural" herbal remedies which profit motivated companies foist on naive consumers. Many are simply useless (most "enzyme" preparations) and many contain an assortment of mother nature's own poisonous alkaloids as naturally selected insecticides. Evolution certainly didn't select them to benefit man. Remember, strychnine is all natural!

It should be illegal for

It should be illegal for anyone that is, or has been, affiliated with companies such as Monsanto to be hired on by the FDA ... chalk it up as a conflict of interest. I've read in a few places where many of the people who hold high positions in the FDA worked for some of the Genetic Giants prior to their placement in a Government position. Is it just me, or does any one else see the reasoning as to why these people should not be allowed to regulate our laws where our food supply is concerned?

We should pass a law which

We should pass a law which would require FDA staff who approves any GMO food would have to consume same food for at least 10 years daily under strict controlled circumstances as would the staff of the GMO manufacturing company, CEOs, board members. If nothing happens to them, then it is fit for human consumption but still should be studied for at least 10 more years to determine its consequences in nature....

Totally agree!! If Monsanto

Totally agree!! If Monsanto moneymakers at the top really believe their food is safe for consumption then prove it!! The CEOs and other board members must give all of their salary towards paying off the debt while completing this 10 year study proving that they are not growing their third eye, or developing intestinal or immune issues due to their safe food...DEAL!!!!! Oh yeah, they are only able to eat Monsanto GMOs only, that shouldn't be difficult since our food chain has been tainted since the 1970s on a regular basis.

Looks to me like it's high

Looks to me like it's high time for action! An Avaaz petition is the obvious first choice for me, with over 17 million members to date we can a make a big noise about this.
If this insane plan is not stopped the consequences will be irreversible, whatever they may be. And let's face it, nobody knows what shape things will take after the frankenfish are released into the wild. So we will have to stop them. Simple as that.
Get ready to sign, folks! And maybe occupy a few fishfarms?

genetic manipulation of any

genetic manipulation of any organism alters other aspects of that organism and science does not have a clue what alterations may or will occur during genetic manipulation. The FDA is lying when they say "the genetically modified salmon does not need to labeled as it’s the ‘same’ as regular salmon".

Food as God intended to which

Food as God intended to which God gave natural selection as the means to enrich our crops. God obviously doesn't want eels and salmon to cross-breed for whatever God's reasons are.
But MonSatan and AquaAdevil are getting their jollies off 'playing' God. Probably the 'advantage' they're angling is that if the GMO fish are released into the wild, then AA will have "legal" grounds to demand a royalty for every ounce of salmon sold on this Earth since there will be no economical way of DNA testing each and every fish. MonSatan aready plays that card with their GMO crops.
The FDA needs re-acronymed to CEC. Criminal Evil and Corrupt.
Seems the whole effort of the United States government of late is to economically and efficiently kill off as many people as possible covertly thru food caused diseases and environmental contamination all the while assuring the wealthy elite and priviledged nobility can make a fortune from mass poisoning, death and suffering who will by the way be able to afford "real" food, clean air and water.
At least Hitler was upfront about thinning the herd/population by getting rid of humans that were "undesirable specimens". He just wasn't enough of a capitalist about it.
