While the North Pole has been losing sea ice over the years, the water nearest the South Pole has been gaining it. Since scientists started recording in 1979 the Antartic has been growing. Researcher Ted Maksym said “A warming world can have complex and almsot surprising consequences.” So the overall trend now seems to be, ice is shirnking in the North Pole and growing in the South Pole. Scientists now believe this may be due to global warming. Scientist Ted Scambos said “It sounds counterintuitive, but the Antartic is part of the warming as well.”
