Karl Rove’s Crossroads Groups

Article image

Two groups formed by influential Republican operative Karl Rove spent more on television and radio ads in the presidential race than any other "super PAC" or advocacy group in recent weeks. The super political action committee American Crossroads and its sister nonprofit, Crossroads GPS, together spent $47.4 million since September 10. Ads funded by the groups have been hitting President Barack Obama's economic record in a handful of crucial swing states. These groups have pledged to spend some $300 million to help elect Mitt Romney to the White House and Republicans to Congress.

I want to believe that these Crossroads Groups whose message is aimed at the meanest, lowest in human nature will fail in their attempt to buy the presidency. Their "half a truth is better than no truth at all" message rarely survives any truth test. They are hoping the apathetic make up of their constituency will accept their negative campaign without question, but the 24/7 bombardment of today's news is gradually changing the makeup of the electorate. They aren't as easily manipulated as they once might have been.
Standing in the line for early voting I was heartened by the level of conversation and political understanding by a representative cross section of voters. America understands that a gold-plated **** is still a ****!(use your own word)
