Made from Genetically Modified Bacteria Waste, Aspartame Risks Public Health

“Aspartame has been linked to a number of diseases, can impair the immune system, and is even known to cause cancer.”

Aspartame is one of the most used artificial sweeteners in the food supply today. It also happens to be one of the most dangerous. Aspartame is used in thousands of products as a substitute to sugar, though consumers would actually be better off eating regular sugar. Specifically, the toxic substance is often found in diet soft drinks and various candies. You should also be aware that aspartame is even present in a number of lesser-known conventional products as well.

Millions either knowingly or unknowingly consume aspartame on a daily basis. However, if the public was aware of the various dangers aspartame poses to individual health, they would stop — or would they?

Aspartame is an addictive substance. Most people who consume diet sodas regularly soon develop a craving for it. This is because of aspartame’s addictive quality. Soon after consuming the ingredient on a normal basis, many people find themselves unable to kick the habit.

This is concerning due to the fact that aspartame has been linked to a number of diseases, can impair the immune system, and is even known to cause cancer. Aspartame has even been found to create tumors in lab rats. One study showed that of 48 rats experimented on, up to 67 percent of all female rats developed tumors roughly the size of golf balls or larger. This is glaringly in contrast to the perceived nature of what a ‘sugar free alternative’ would entail, which is generally thought to be a ‘healthy’ substitute to sugar.

Aspartame works as an excitotoxin, stimulating a response in cells to simulate the effects of sweetness without actually being sweet. Over exertion of these cells leads to the various health conditions that currently wreak havoc on the public.

Excitotoxins have been found to stimulate cancer growth and metastasis. Aspartame, essentially, feeds cancer cells. If this weren’t enough to convince you to drop the diet soda habit, the process by which aspartame is made involves a highly toxic and volatile and genetically engineered form of bacteria waste — hardly something that would be considered safe by a reasonable standard.

And yet, the ‘safe and reasonable’ FDA has approved aspartame for use. Knowing the gamete of health risks that aspartame is responsible for, and knowing the history of FDA approved products, your health becomes your own responsibility. Being aware of its presence in over 6,000 products and counting is essential.

It is a half written article.

It is a half written article. I am looking at it because I thought the author was going to expose some of the food items aspartame is in. I've been thinking it may be in some juices. Rodley is right. Aspartame has been foisted on the American public for roughly 20 years. Making people sick the whole time. I hate the taste of it and have avoided it for years.

I agree with other comments:

I agree with other comments: this article ends where it should have started. DATA! I detest aspartame and avoid it. The solution is simple: eat FOOD your grandmother would recognize as such, not stuff from boxes and cans.Cooking from scratch does not have to take a lot of time and you know what's in it.

What to believe? Perhaps

What to believe? Perhaps 'bullshit' was always an art..... Now it is a science. There are those evil types that lie for personal gain, and others just misinformed. Mostly the preaching is to the choir. We tend to extrapolate what best feeds our addictions. Maybe The ostrich has it right...

I kept reading so as to get

I kept reading so as to get to the meat of the article, but it ended without the proof that should have cited particular studies. This is a very disappointing article. I have read much better on this website.

Life has been linked to a

Life has been linked to a number of diseases.... I'm not a fan of Aspartane, won't knowingly consume it, and it may be everything stated here. But this kind of junk science opinion is an insult to serious writers here and not worthy of Nation of Change. This strikes me as "fund raising" kind of scare article.

Please, there is serious and thoughtful editorial opinion here, worthy of support. But this feels sleazy and dishonest. I think Nation of Change is better than this.

This article may not meet

This article may not meet your standards, but there are plenty of past scientific articles out there to support the message of aspartame as a dangerous substance.

Thanks for info on Monster

Thanks for info on Monster extraordinare Monsanto. I'm old enough to remember the exposure in the 60s of the negative health effects the saccharine and aspertame. At that time citizens were more conscious of these things. The regulatory agencies were responsive and not as anti-human are they are now.

Alas, this is not an article

Alas, this is not an article worthy of Nation of Change -- while the assertions may be true or not, there is nothing credible about it and personal opinion is one thing, but this poses as scientifically proven. There should be much more stringent editorial oversight. I personally won't eat anything that I know has it in it, but if all these assertions are true, we need to be up in arms -- and to do so, we need some serious studies.

The nations' appetite for

The nations' appetite for liquid meat tenderizer for the brain and the apparent insatiable need for senseless wars in foreign lands speaks volumes for the effectivness of unscrupulous advertising and propaganda. The truth is available but it may not be from corporate America or from the government; it might take some individual effort.

I'm afraid I must agree,

I'm afraid I must agree, WHERE'S your proof? Where is the data to support your conclusions? What diseases? What ailments? All I see here is supposition, assertions and accusations; all without data and references to support them.

If we apply the same

If we apply the same reasoning as applied here, we would ban all cane/corn sweeteners used today as in excess they cause problems. Teeth rotting to start with all of the associated issued of gum disease, and even heart problems from bacterial plaque blocking heart arteries and veins. Honey is not normally included, but in excess also.To demonize a product with out showing any peer reviewed evidence of damage including the odd back problem where people have put their back out shifting cartons of the product in the warehouse is quack science of the first order.Like wise we know that smoking will cause serious health problems of 30% of users, why are we focusing on a non event. Sure each chemical in our environment from water (death comes after 5-7 minutes - 98% lethal, of total human immersion, even for small amounts, eg small children falling into a half full bucket) , oxygen in air, to the dust from diesel engines can be rated in as being a hazard, or from even active chemicals found in the best organic food.Panic for panic sake is manipulation. Why in this case ???

Because aspartame is really

Because aspartame is really mostly methyl (rubbing) alcohol, which is dangerous to humans in causing blindness and liver damage, which the FDA then "approved!" anyway, due no doubt to corporate bribery.

It also causes violent psychosis and other allergic reactions in certain unwary individuals whose brains don't produce enough of a certain enzyme to neutralize it even in the most minute amounts, which due to unexpected proximity to same, could easily also endanger the lives of other unsuspecting innocents - yourself included - that's "why in this case."

;-)

the Weston A Price

the Weston A Price organization has articles detailing the deal with aspartame... Would it surprise you to know that aspartame is owned by Monsanto? This is a product with a history reaching back to the 1970's and 80's and studies of it's harmful effects are quietly buried and of course were brushed aside by the FDA. Scary stuff.

this is clearly a trash

this is clearly a trash article, why is it even posted here! So don't drink 17 diet sodas a day....do you work for the corn refiners? Because if you want to go there, enough natural sugars will lead you toward adult onset diabetes....you should be worried about paranoid gun freaks, not diet pop!

Sugar in moderation, salt in

Sugar in moderation, salt in moderation, alcohol in moderation with a variety of healthy. natural foods.Diabetes is up due to excess and inbalance in eating habits, processed foods and sedentary lifestyles.

Just because the article's

Just because the article's author doesn't seem to know any real facts about what they are describing, doesn't mean there's no real danger!

Aspartame (aka: "nutrasweet") is really mostly methyl (rubbing) alcohol, which, although it is dangerous to humans as it causes blindness and liver damage, the FDA then "approved!" for human use anyway, due no doubt to corporate bribery.

It also causes violent psychosis and other allergic reactions in certain unwary individuals whose brains don't produce enough of a certain enzyme to neutralize it even in the most minute amounts, which due to unexpected proximity to same, could easily also endanger the lives of other unsuspecting innocents - yourself included.

As "diet pop," it could easily make some gun freaks even more paranoid.

;-)

The problem with Aspartame is

The problem with Aspartame is simply that it is methyl alcohol piggy-backed on vitamin C to get past the brain-blood barrier.

It's most obvious affects are to imbalance those who have a dearth of a certain enzyme, causing toxic effects similar to and resembling (but not the same as) phenlyketoneuria. This effect resembles classic "psychosis" and paranoid rage, making it a very unsafe product to let loose among the citizenry.

Other than that, the methanol itself (aka "Rubbing alcohol") is a substance toxic to humans, which causes blindness and other (liver-related) problems.

On the plus side, aspartame has been known to secrete in the livers of hepatitis patients, and to actually kill off the hepatitis virus entirely.

Of course, it was also owned (if not originally created) by MONSANTO... which pretty-much says it all!

;-)

I don't know anything about

I don't know anything about its health effects (though I won't touch the stuff myself, as I can't abide the taste). But calling it made from bacteria waste is sleazy rhetoric. Any food involving fermentation, beer, wine, vinegar, sauerkraut, yogurt, cheese, soy sauce, etc. can be said to be made from bacteria waste.

I'd really like to see Nation of Change applying a higher editorial standard, that headline is stooping toward tabloid levels.

I have trouble believing any

I have trouble believing any of these claims without the data to back it up. This looks like junk science. I'm not saying it isn't true - for all I know, it could be - but Mr. Evans has not made a compelling argument. It sounds like one of those alarmist spam emails that get forwarded into infinity. I don't like aspartame, but not because I think it's dangerous. I just don't like the way it tastes.

Andre Evans appears to have

Andre Evans appears to have never studied either basic biology or elementary chemistry, and he seems to have bought into a myth/hoax that has circulated on the internet for years now, that aspartame causes myriad weird diseases plaguing society. Aspartame consists only of 2 naturally occurring amino acids (phenylalanine and aspartic acid) linked by a methyl ester bond. It is not absorbed, and is completely hydrolyzed in the intestine to yield the two constituent amino acids and free methanol. Although consumption of methanol is known to be toxic, the amount of methanol produced from a single can of diet soda is only about 20 mg. An equivalent volume of fruit juice produces 40 mg of methanol, and the same volume of an alcoholic beverage generates between 60 and 100 mg of methanol. The yield of phenylalanine is about 100 mg for a can of diet soft drink, compared with 300 mg for an egg, 500 mg for a glass of milk, and 900 mg for a large hamburger.

You would have to consume huge quantities of diet soda, etc. to see any toxic effects, and there is no clinical evidence published in any reputable scientific journal that links consumption of aspartame to cancer or the many other diseases mentioned by Mr. Evans.

What “genetically modified bacteria waste” has to do with the simple chemical attachment of 2 amino acids together is beyond me. Moreover, you would be surprised at how many biological enzymes and medical therapeutics are routinely manufactured by bacteria (not necessarily genetically engineered bacteria) in huge fermentation vessels. The bacteria secrete the drugs, enzymes, etc., which could be considered “waste.”

I am a medical writer/editor for the Dept. of Neurosurgery at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center with a Ph.D. in biochemical genetics, and I have absolutely zero interest in promoting the use of aspartame. However, I do occasionally drink a diet soda that contains it, and I never worry about it.

Thank you, Dr. Wildrick, for

Thank you, Dr. Wildrick, for your reasoned comment. I hope "Nation of Change" editors -- if the publication has any -- will learn from you how to vett an opinion article purporting to deal with science or health. Mr. Evans' commentary sounds like it came from Rush Limbaugh or Faux News.
For the record, the "most dangerous sweetener on the market" is still sugar.

Hard to believe that our

Hard to believe that our government would work for private profits over the health and safety of its citizens. Are nuclear weapons any better or are they for our health and safety? What do the people of Fukushima think of clean and reliable nuclear energy now?

The government has been

The government has been long-since hijacked by self-promoting salesmen, who are of course beholden to the corporazis who fund their campaigns.

In exchange, they build up industry-friendly infrastructures at direct taxpayer expense (infrastructures said industries themselves would never fork over even a single dime to pay for) then deliberately down-size and out-source the labour required to operate same, in order to make them seem "bloated and inefficient" as a prelude to then selling them off to those same corporate sales-masters at fire-sale prices, upon the completion of which said sales-puppets ('politicians') will retire to their comfy do-nothing make-work rewards on those corporations boards of directors. Same old every time!

As someone once said, "No one would spend millions of dollars to be hired for a position which pays a salary of a few hundred thousand, unless they were planning to steal it all back and more!"

"As someone once said, "No

"As someone once said, "No one would spend millions of dollars to be hired for a position which pays a salary of a few hundred thousand, unless they were planning to steal it all back and more!""

I've been stating that belief for my entire adult life. It's heart-warming to hear someone else citing it too.

show me the data!

show me the data!

While I suspect that there

While I suspect that there may be truth in what the author is saying, there are no studies to back up these assertions. I'd like some data, please!

What an asinine assertion! Of

What an asinine assertion! Of course there are (were) studies. Now go do some work and look for them!

So why doesn't Obama do

So why doesn't Obama do something about the departments that work for him that are allowing this product along with the GMO crops? He certainly is not shy about destroying our energy industry, or forcing Agenda 21's Sustainable Development for World Government?

The "departments that work

The "departments that work for him" don't work for the office of the president. They work for the citizens of the United States or, rather they should be working for you. The presidential office may be able affect those departments but never forget, that office is supposed to work for you. I say supposed because it clearly no longer does.

The government has been

As for the corporate food industry: food is a NEED - so it isn't affected by the usual supply-and-demand rules; if the cost rises, the demand can not decrease!

That makes the food industry into an addictions industry!

If and when Monsanto can literally destroy it's competition by destroying and replacing their crops, they will own the world because they can then set the prices and so determine who lives and who dies! (Every see one of those "The Omen" movies, where Damian the antiChrist tries to take over the global food production industry?)! Same with president Abomo!
