Clearly, an investigation of large-scale government corruption by this singularly destructive corporation is long overdue.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has been taken over by an outside organization.  RootsAction has launched a campaign demanding a Congressional investigation.

The organization is called Monsanto.

Monsanto is, of course, the world's largest biotech corporation.  These are the people who brought us Roundup weed killer and the resulting superweeds and superbugs, along with growth hormones for cows, genetically engineered and patented seeds, PCBs, and Agent Orange -- which Monsanto now wants us to use as herbicide on genetically engineered corn and soybeans.

This chemical company -- responsible for environmental disasters that have destroyed entire towns, and a driving force behind the international waves of suicides among farmers whose lives it has helped ruin -- has monopolized our food system largely by taking over regulatory agencies like the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

recent study links Roundup to autism, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's.

While Hungary has just destroyed all Monsanto genetically engineered corn fields, the USDA takes a slightly different approach toward the chemical giant.  The USDA has, in fact, never denied a single application from Monsanto for new genetically engineered crops.  Not one.  Not ever.

The takeover has been thorough.  Monsanto's growth hormones for cows have been approved by Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto lobbyist turned USDA administrator and FDA deputy commissioner.  This was after Margaret Miller, a former Monsanto employee, oversaw a report on the hormones' safety and then took a job at the FDA where she approved her own report.

Islam Siddiqui, a former Monsanto lobbyist, wrote the USDA's food standards, allowing corporations to label irradiated and genetically engineered foods as "organic."

The recently passed and signed law nicknamed the Monsanto Protection Act strips federal courts of the power to halt the sale and planting of genetically engineered crops during a legal appeals process.  The origin of this act can be found in the USDA's deregulation of Roundup Ready sugar beets in violation of a court order.  The USDA argued that any delay would have caused a sugar shortage, since Monsanto holds 95% of the market.

The revolving door keeps revolving.  Monsanto's board members have worked for the EPA, advised the USDA, and served on President Obama's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.

Clearly, an investigation of large-scale government corruption by this singularly destructive corporation is long overdue.  RootsAction is asking everyone concerned, wherever you are in the world, to join in demanding the opening of that investigation right now.

And then get ready to join Nation of Change and organizations and individuals around the world in a March Against Monsanto on May 25.

The AMA has to find it's

The AMA has to find it's backbone and stand up to the FDA! Dr's see every day and treat illness borne from the effects of our tainted food industry, and most Dr's and health care practitioners are frustrated and incesned by the FDA's loss of focus and it's 180 degree about-face from it's original purpose--to protect people's health. Let's change how things are run and stand together for change!

Monsanto Has Taken Over the

Monsanto Has Taken Over the USDA, this wins an award for the OLDEST new headline in the modern world. Monsanto own the USDA, FDA, Congress, State Department & White House and it has for two decades.

During the Clinton administration, I was asked by USDA to give a couple of presentations on Organics & GMO's. Since the Department was sponsoring my trip, my remarks had to be pre-approved, which they were. My fist presentation was at the US Embassy in London; after my well-received remarks by an audience of several hundred English farmers, I overheard that my USDA host had been summoned to the office of the Ag attaché where they were verbally dressed down for allowing me to mention the problems that GMO’s created for organic farmers. I sent word to the attaché that if he had anything to say about my presentation he should be man enough to say it to my face; in five minutes I was in his office where I challenged him to point out anything I said that was false or misleading. He kept repeating I should not say anything negative about GMO’s then finally threatened to put me on the next military aircraft back to the US if I did not rewrite my remarks prior to the next presentation in Germany; which was the site of the largest Organic Trade Show in the world. Since I had a good deal of business to conduct, I rewrote my presentation on a totally benign subject. Still there were 5 members of the US German embassy staff in the front row and one large gentleman standing next to the microphone power outlet just in case I decided to stray from my new remarks.

Wiki leaks also released messages from the US embassy in Paris about taking care of GMO “enemies”

The real headline came THIS week when the USDA delayed approval on 2-4-D ready GMO crops. This was the first time in USDA’s history that they did not trip over themselves to approve a GMO; as was discovered by the judge in the sugar beet case when he learned that USDA had not followed it’s own approval protocol in a rush to rubber-stamp a GMO.

Isn't it true, things always

Isn't it true, things always get worse before they get better, when they are a total mess and not everyone agrees - yet? Well, I can see we are right on track, because it is closing in on that time when what sucks is effecting everyone, and those who have hidden behind their walls of money and denial will be forced to say, "Hey, this sucks for me, too, now." It happened to my adoptive family. They stole their children's money to keep up appearances & both houses and their cars, and hair appointments and facelifts going and going and going, and now their children know they are criminals and so being rich and famous without morals or ethics, well, it just plain sucks -- for everyone! I know Monsanto must be getting a hint by now. Never worry, Nature has a brilliant plan, and our standing up for what is true and love-worthy is all part of it. I sign every petition that supports an all organic, Permaculture world that serves love and life for everyone.

Monsanto has taken over the USDA
Wealthy corporate elites have taken over the entire US Govt and the Repub-Dem duopoly, and none has given more aid and comfort to them since Reagan than Obama. Bush was more overt, generating a negative reaction. Obama has duplicitously parlayed it into a second great leap forward for the 1%.

If it is at all possible, the

If it is at all possible, the U.S. may become a fourth world country. We are ruled by dirty politics and dirty money.

Monsanto is one of the most

Monsanto is one of the most TRULY EVIL corporations that has ever exited and is now responsible for 70% of all food in our grocer store now containing genetically modified DNA, which proven studies have shown to cause massive organ damage and death in all kinds of animals fed GM foods. In India, more than 24,000 farmers have committed suicide since Monsanto got control over India's agriculture, and there's another Indian farmer suicide approximately ever 30 minutes. American and Canadian farmers who refuse to plant Monsanto GM seed are often sued and lose their farms, which have often been in their families for generations. Recently, Congress passed its Monsanto Protection Act which prevents anyone from taking Monsanto to court for any reason -- undermining the American legal system in the process.

Abut 25 years ago Monsanto set out with one agenda -- to get 100% control of the entire global food supply so that no person could farm or eat without Monsanto getting paid.

The environmental damage from Monsanto's GMOs is destroying natural crops and foliage and contributing to species diseases and extinction.

There is an enormous amount of evil in the world these days, but Monsanto stand perhaps at the top of the list. As the eating of genetically modified foods gradually destroys the health of Americans and the people of other nations through organ damage, new diseases likely to occur because the human genetic system is being changed by GM foods at the DNA level in ways not know or understood, and earlier deaths become a result, the world will discover that it has allowed a technology to be unleashed on the world that is far more deadly that nuclear weapons. We have control over nuclear weapons, so far. GMOs are the first MAN-MADE TECHNOLOGY that is neither understood by the scientists doing the work, nor can it be ever again be controlled after being unleashed into the natural environment and food supply.

Anything that will shut down Monsanto and similar companies should be considered legitimate. I've been politically active my entire life, but since both since both the Republicans (George H.W. Bush) and Democrats have moved into the Monsanto camp, I will no longer give my political support to either party. WE are desperately in need of a global mass movement to take control of our destiny away from corrupts corporations, banks and governments. Where is that movement?

Agreed -- they define

Agreed -- they define corporate evil. Their only value seems to be in catalyzing a great many people into an awareness of the biotech industry and its dangers. It's abhorrent that even during the Obama administration they remain bulletproof. Their status has disillusioned me entirely on Obama. Imagine how invulnerable they'll be if a Republican gets in.

I'm going to my local march

I'm going to my local march and am going to bring as many people as I can...problem is I do not have facebook and refuse to ever get an account. The way this event is being organized is entirely on facebook so those of us who don't have an account can't find out any details of the event. How about someone setting up a page where the organizers can post the info for the facebook intollerant?

America is all about money,

America is all about money, and that fact will undo this once-great nation. It isn't just Monsanto, it's the Capitalistic mechanism that allows companies, politicians, our medical system and more to function, not based on what's best, but what's most profitable.

I applaud the other countries that have said No to this nonsensical greed. I'm not optimistic about what can be done here as those controlling the sytem have also been bought off in the form of campaign contributions or "incentives" to business. It's often called "good business," because it results in maximum profit.

The one positive note is that through activism (thank you), a few enlightened politicians and an increasinbly knowledgable populace, we are more aware. Aware people can make change happen.

One tiny bit of positive evidence: A new Whole Foods Market opened in my city. It's always crowded, including the non-GMO aisle. If we take away the profit, something will change.
