Nestle CEO: Water is Not a Human Right, Should be Privatized

Is water a free and basic human right, or should all the water on the planet belong to major corporations and be treated as a product? Should the poor who cannot afford to pay these said corporations suffer from starvation due to their lack of financial wealth? According to the former CEO and now Chairman of the largest food product manufacturer in the world, corporations should own every drop of water on the planet — and you’re not getting any unless you pay up.

The company notorious for sending out hordes of ‘internet warriors’ to defend the company and its actions online in comments and message boards (perhaps we’ll find some below) even takes a firm stance behind Monsanto’s GMOs and their ‘proven safety’. In fact, the former Nestle CEO actually says that his idea of water privatization is very similar to Monsanto’s GMOs. In a video interview, Nestle Chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe states that there has never been ‘one illness’ ever caused from the consumption of GMOs.

The way in which this sociopath clearly has zero regard for the human race outside of his own wealth and the development of Nestle, who has been caught funding attacks against GMO labeling, can be witnessed when watching and listening to his talk on the issue. This is a company that actually goes into struggling rural areas and extracts the groundwater for their bottled water products, completely destroying the water supply of the area without any compensation. In fact, they actually make rural areas in the United States foot the bill.

As reported on by Corporate Watch, Nestle and former CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe have a long history of disregarding public health and abusing the environment to take part in the profit of an astounding $35 billion in annual profit from water bottle sales alone. The report states:

“Nestlé production of mineral water involves the abuse of vulnerable water resources. In the Serra da Mantiqueira region of Brazil, home to the “circuit of waters” park whose groundwater has a high mineral content and medicinal properties, over-pumping has resulted in depletion and long-term damage.”

Nestle has also come under fire over the assertion that they are actually conducting business with massive slavery rings. Another Corporate Watch entry details:

“In 2001, Nestlé faced criticism for buying cocoa from the Ivory Coast and Ghana, which may have been produced using child slaves.[58] According to an investigative report by the BBC, hundreds of thousands of children in Mali, Burkina Faso and Togo were being purchased from their destitute parents and shipped to the Ivory Coast, to be sold as slaves to cocoa farms.”

So is water a human right, or should big corporations own it? Well, if water is not here for all of us, then perhaps major corporations should own air as well. And as for crops, Monsanto is already working hard to make sure their monopoly on our staple crops and beyond is well situated. It should really come as no surprise that this Nestle Chairman fights to keep Monsanto’s GMOs alive and well in the food supply, as his ideology lines right up with that of Monsanto.

Is too late to react,

Is too late to react, uhmm...or not?, in any case, Gas natural and fracking industry are pushing up the water price or in other words, for the same price the water's quality is worse. Clean water is a foodstuff in a great part of the world already, and soon will be true in all the world. So Nestle's dream will become real in a not too far future. Sorry.

Who the hell do these people

Who the hell do these people think they are? And what the hell are they thinking?....We are living in an age where big business seems to think that they own everything! The trouble is, we sit back and let them think and do as they please, it is only when they do something that hits a raw nerve with an individual, and this particular affected individual takes offence to what they are saying or doing, and then starts to campaign against what is being done? Why do we wait until it is almost to late to prevent these greedy, selfish, self important, self interested businesses, and businessmen to take control of our Planet and of our lives, before we suddenly realise what they are up to.....We must stop them before they are completely in control of EVERYTHING! And that day isn't to far away. Lets NOT let them get away with it, lets all put a stop to it before it is to late...!

I hope this fellow likes

I hope this fellow likes extremely hot climates, because, whenever his life is over, he will be burning in HELL for eternity. Of course he sounds like a lowbrow who lacks the intellect to connect one dot, let alone all of the dots.

I am a scientist, architect, anthropologist who back in 1973 won THREE
Ford Foundation Fellowships, one of them based upon my predictions constructed around the behavior of Homo erectus and Neanderthal and their lack of progressive creativity displayed by little improvement in tools, housing and domestication.

This theory became a serious theory ten years later by Computer testing at Berkeley in 1987, and became a reality in 2003/2005 when actual DNA-DNA Hybridization DNA from both species supported my paper on why we, homo sapiens sapiens, would show no evidence of any descent from either of the above mentioned subspecies. Between the two of them, they were around for about 1.8 million years. (The vast majority of that stay belonged to Homo erectus).

That leaves anthropologists in a quandary concerning their original, but not very smart previous theories. Now it looks as though Homo sapiens sapiens original is not a part of the rigidly created and defended, previous theory of evolution of our species. Some of those anthropologists are now living in twisted denial.

God exists, regardless of those no-brainers wishes that He did not, so they could keep on with the mass murders and wealth stealing, and pretend HELL is not anxiously awaiting their arrival in a place that would melt all the air conditioning systems in the world.

The whole concept behind

The whole concept behind bottled water was false from the beginning. Bottled water was never any better than most cities give you out of the tap, and getting it out of bottles instead means less pressure on those cities to get water delivery right.

In other words, ACTING as if the story of bad city water was true, is MAKING it true.

Stop buying plain old water in polluting plastic bottles, and force our governments to do water the right way!

Not that I agree with his

Not that I agree with his statements, but this clip has got to be pretty old... He mentions that their income is 90B CHF (equal to $65B ) - I had to go back to the mid-1980's to find that kind of exchange rate. Your story makes it sound like this is recent news.

Actually, it is from their

Actually, it is from their 2005 "We Feed The World". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Brabeck-Letmathe

Yes, let's privatize air too

Yes, let's privatize air too so we have to pay for every breath of air.... Why? Because the 1% think they can do anything without any negative consequence to them... The free enterprise is the freedom of the 1% to make enterprise of the 99%.... You don't believe me? Check the income/wealth distribution in the US and then determine for yourself who runs the show and what they get for it...

This is an excellent example

This is an excellent example of "Capitalism".

We have everything we want?

We have everything we want? This man seems to be mourning the loss of his own soul, despite the fact that he has everything. We are All One. We are All Connected.

Let's get rid of corporations altogether and replace them with co-operatives. Let the employees and customers have a stake in all that profit. We'll see a more human approach with this simple change.

Check out Storm Clouds

Check out Storm Clouds Gathering website for interesting videos that challenge us to see a larger picture than we'll ever see by only reacting to insult after insult as they crop up. Also follow the ongoing spill at Fukishima. We must not be blinded to the big picture by focusing only on single-issue challenges. BUT we must continue to fight all the single challenges at once too--GMOs, privatization (and destruction) of natural resources, perpetual war, on and on. Mostly we need to break down cultural and socioeconomic barriers among ourselves so that we can come together to plan how to survive. Countries have been replaced with companies. Global fascism is becoming real. It is so sad.

If we consider only air,

If we consider only air, water and soil as "the commons" we will forever be fighting corporate capital over control of every resource.
Private capital/enterprise (with a few exceptions) cares only for itself and has few, if any, compunctions over destroying anything in the way of profits.
All natural resources should be part of the commons, and governments should not be able to give over control to private enterprise, even as lease holding.

If you believe in the big

If you believe in the big bang, or God, water was here before man. All the natural common resources were here before man. Unless corporation can prove ownership in writing it does not belong to them.

Soon the air we breathe will

Soon the air we breathe will be owned by Dupont and other such industries since it's polluted with their patented chemicals and we have no right to inhale their product for free.

Is the delusion that they can own the earth, wind, fire and water something that only white Europeans suffer, or is it that they are only the visible majority?

Anono, no they are not the

Anono, no they are not the only ones who suffer delusions, they are in Power and therefor visible. I'm so glad you said this. Middle-class and poor Caucasians benefit from their delusions and under pressure will side with them to keep this unearned privilege.

Is there some point of

Is there some point of reductio ad absurdum where the human race is compelled to pay rent on their own bodies? I'm sure Nestle' and Monsanto will be willing to extend us credit to cover the tab, don't you think?

The whole concept of private ownership of common resources is predicated on violence. Try to act against laws such as those, or any private property statute, and you can expect escalating violence applied by the state up to incarceration or death. That's how private property stays private.

Is that the kind of world we want?

He will force people who can

He will force people who can not pay for "his" water to drink from the toilet.

Barfly, you think he will

Barfly, you think he will give you water to flush your toilet when he won't give it to you to drink? You will be cut off entirely if you don't pay. In parts of the US where water is scarce and there are historic water rights, they've been trying to pass laws making it illegal to even catch rainwater that falls on your property. I've been boycotting Nestle for over three decades (most of my life) since they were telling women in third world countries that their infant formula was superior to breastmilk and the women who switched often lost their babies who died painful deaths because their mothers didn't have clean sterile water to make the formula with. His company has caused deaths and is still pushing infant formula for profit where the water isn't good enough to make it safely. My friend who recently died from cancer lost her government job because she was enforcing the laws and refused her superior's order to just rubber-stamp this corps plans to bottle huge quantities of Great Lakes water and sell it for profit. They are evil, and boycotting them isn't simple, because they own so many different brand names. Better to just stop shopping in groceries and buy your food directly from local farmers.

Some things belong to the

Some things belong to the "commons" and cannot/should not be owned by any one individual or group. We will just have to educate everyone and run these greedy bastards off our lands.

You are absolutely right:

You are absolutely right: Air, Water, and Soil are the commons, on which every being on this planet deserves.
We the People of this Planet need to Stand Up Against the Likes of Nestle's CEO, and treat them as a Mortal Threat to all life on this Planet.
We have to remain vigilant where ever evil rears its head and cut it off.
If Nestle is that evil head, it needs to be cut off.
The inly way to do that is to cease consuming all products that this company makes and put them out of business.

Nestle products will no

Nestle products will no longer be in my shopping cart. An organic vegetarian it will not be too hard to do.
