Obama’s Administration to Ease Rules for Medicare Benefit

As a proposed settlement of a national class-action lawsuit, the government will revise its Medicare manual to make benefits available when care would only "maintain the patient's current condition or ... prevent or slow further deterioration".  The new requirements ensures broader availability of Medicare coverage for skilled nursing, home health and outpatient care and mark a significant departure from longstanding practices that insist on evidence of medical improvement to sustain coverage.
