Strike for What? Ask Teachers.
Many teachers walked out on their students Monday in Chicago. The Chicago school district is the third largest school district in the US. The Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel and the Secretary of Educationand Arne Duncan, are being challenged by public school teachers that have gone on strike recently. Mayor Emanuel says, "This is not a strike I wanted, it was a strike of choice… it's unnecessary, it's avoidable and it's wrong."

When I was in college, I was told "teaching is premeditated poverty". When you strike you are told you are a professional and professionals don't strike
But don't professionals have a say in more of their issues?

When you think about it, the only people that are truly interested in your children almost as much as you (or family), are their teachers. Unfortunately, some politicians think education is a business -- like selling toilet paper or inside trading on Wall Street. Education is an art that not everyone can create, especially with young people. How much more will it take before parents start to realize that if public education is killed by privatization, only the wealthy will be educated. No one else will be able to afford more than the bare minimum and many will have no education at all. Support public education and the men and women who serve the children there.
