In defiance of the assault on the city of Hama, where tanks shelled residential Syrian neighborhoods, tens of thousands of people filled the streets in protest shouting, "Hama, we are with you until death," and "We don't want you Bashar!". Activists are on the streets all all across the country protesting in solidarity with the city of Hama and in anger at the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Syrian tanks shelled residential districts in the city of Hama at 4:00 AM this morning. The city of Hama has a population of 800,000, it is a historically rebellious population which the government lost control of last June when residents blockaded the streets against approaching tanks and snipers, who later attacked the city. At least 1,700 have been killed since Syrian crackdowns on protest began in March.
