Televangelist Pat Robertson: Bankers Should Go to Jail for Financial Fraud

Pat Robertson points to Iceland as an example of the people causing government to go after large-scale financial criminals.

Conservative televangelist Pat Robertson called for prosecuting and jailing bankers who perpetuated mortgage fraud, predatory lending, and other potentially illegal practices before and during the financial crisis while hosting The 700 Club this weekend. Robertson praised Iceland, which jailed bankers who broke its laws, adding that the U.S. should “start putting some of those bankers in jail.” “There were all kinds of shady dealings during the financial crisis,” Robertson said. “So many people were lying, what they call no-doc loans and liars’ loans, and people were complicit all the way up the line, and none of them have been held accountable.”

Well said, Pat Robertson.

Who ever said miracles don't happen?

But to put this into context, this is a matter of being right for all the wrong reasons. And even if I coincidentally agree with part of his conclusion, I don't agree with his rationale.

This is simply an anti-Obama mindset.

Look at Iceland because they've done things differently than Obama.

Had this been a Republican administration, there'd be no enlightened criticism nor a calling for accountability.

I just happen to agree that re-eleting Obama is the worst political outcome. And, of course, accountability for criminal bankers and reforming that system is necessary and due, and clearly Obama is not the one to do it; but nor will Robertson's preferred alternative be the one to change anything for the better.

The likelihood is that the only reason Pat Robertson reached his conclusions originates from his political agenda, and ironically -- but not surprisingly -- not from his moral or ethical compass.

That's one in a row for Robertson. I suspect the streak will end with one, though.

Unbelievable! Pat is rarely correct about anything but he nailed it here.

Obama/Holder should be brought up for impeachment if the DOJ doesn't investigate and prosecute the Wall Street fraudsters.

GOD truly works in mysterious ways. It took Robertson a while to come to the right conclusion, but he got there.

For a self aggrandizing hack, who could not be further from Jesus if he was living on a planet in another star system, who has turned his devotion to the prince of peace into a multi-million dollar conglomerate and thus earned himself a special condo in hell, I think he got this one right. I guess it's true; even a blind pig finds a truffle once in a while.
