We must insist that trade deals never be written to override policies that sovereign governments might later decide are best for their people, culture key industries and the environment.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) embodies the stacked deck. It was negotiated in secret of, by and for the global corporations.

The TPP is not about free trade.

Despite what President Obama says, the TPP does indeed create a corporate end run around our laws.

“There is more than enough evidence from past trade agreements to indicate where the TPP will lead. It is part of the inexorable march by corporations to wrest from us the ability to use government to defend the public and to build social and political organizations that promote the common good.”

Even Chuck Schumer, New York senator who never finds a global trade deal too ugly to hug, fears that the Trans-Pacific Partnership would let corporations roll back laws at every level of government. Yes, the TPP is shameful, Chuck!

The current debate over the TPP is a secretly negotiated deal that is the complete opposite of “liberal” reform, even though it is trying to be passed off as such. We have got to stand together and get rid of this corrupt agenda.

Obama will be delivering his defense of the proposed TPP at the Nike headquarters in Oregon thinking it is a good example of what he is hoping to accomplish. Unfortunately, Nike is not a solution but is, in fact, the very problem with this TPP proposal.

If we allow the Trans-Pacific Partnership to pass, big corporations and Wall Street will be the only ones who will benefit. The idea that trickle-down economics will occur if this bill passes is a myth.

The TPP isn’t the solution. As Jim Hightower describes it: "it’s just another global trade scam coming at us like a volcanic eruption straight out of hell." Don't let the TPP gang steal our democratic rights and turn our futures to global corporations.
