California Wants to Execute Innocent Man

The state of California will be executing Kevin Cooper, who has been on death row for over 30 years, on the 10th unless Governor Jerry Brown steps in.

Kevin Cooper was convicted of four murders in Los Angeles back in 1983 and was sentenced shortly after. He became a suspect after police learned he had escaped from a nearby minimum-security facility and hid in a house that overlooked the victims’ home.

Five federal court judges have claimed he is innocent and was never given a fair trail, so this execution is beyond unjust. “There is no way to say this politely,” the judges wrote. “The district court failed to provide Cooper a fair hearing.”

“I am the only person in the history of the state to have five federal circuit judges say that ‘the state of California may be about to execute an innocent man,’” Cooper said.
