New York Congressmember Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shot back with a passionate defense of the Green New Deal.

The only solution, both to alleviating the underlying problem of inequality and countering the energized far right it has produced in so many places appears to be for the left to counter it with a more positive populism of its own.

“In five minutes, this freshman congresswoman just laid out a whole investigative plan for three more topics into Donald Trump’s potentially criminal activities.”

After all, while the brief bio at the end of his column doesn’t mention it, the newspaper he writes for is owned by Bezos, Amazon’s founder, CEO and the world’s richest man.

It will be up to the activist communities she came from to defend the Green New Deal and push for it to become a reality in 2020 and beyond.

But now it seems that someone in Congress is listening. The Green New Deal is America’s last best chance to get it right.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to mock the proposal on Wednesday, referring to it as a “green dream, or whatever they call it.”

"We are going to transition this country into the future and we are not going to be dragged behind by our past.”

AOC and her colleagues – not Donald Trump and old, white Republican politicians – represent the future.

"It was a good opportunity for us to see what the base was willing to do and if they were going to stand by her in the event of a primary challenge. It was a resounding: 'Yes, they will.'"
