Instead, the fracking industry has helped set new records for U.S. oil production while continuing to lose huge amounts of money – and that was before the recent crash in oil prices.

Despite the fact that the federal government's own report shows that oil and gas production on public land contributes significantly to U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and the Trump administration continue to push on expanding its use.

The fracking industry is producing record amounts of oil, gas, and wastewater, meaning this problem of wastewater disposal isn't going away soon and disposal wells are likely to be part of the long-term solution.
