What makes the MAGA misrule tragedy historic? Total foregone conclusion. Total knowability and avoidability.

Paying the corrupt MAGA piper is now a lead “investment” – with outcomes as predictable (and problematic) as all that voters repressed when empowering the Trump II horror show.

The past is more than prologue: Project 2025 set forth the absolute blueprint. Who can now whine America was bushwhacked by outsiders, Dem ill-will or untreatable Black Swans? MAGA’s always the ultimate inside job.

What’s hollowing out America is not destiny nor divinity, victimization or bad luck. Oblivious voters pulled off a brutal takeover. Since 2016, what sane analyst attributes the endless, compounded MAGA failures, plus profound, long-term negatives, to anything but right-wing extremism? The ambush was and is solely an inside job, managing a (fairly) bloodless coup with enough clout to dominate federalism. The worst news: the Jan. 6 insurgency triumphed after failing, topped with pardons. Really, what news have we learned since then about MAGA’s equally insurgent Project 2025/26 barrage—just more contempt for law, brutality, favoritism, corruption and mean-spirited character assassinations? The last year represents a relentless, second act assault against national prosperity, all to fulfill aggrieved, ignorant, racist, chaotic, unAmerican MAGA agendas. More in horror than shock, all but the hardcore base are stunned to our bootstraps.

Because Rethugs can’t obscure fantasy goals, and reality stared us in the face, the downsides double the tragic impact. If America screws up because lying hacks covertly distort reality, that is one tragic path. But when extremists brazenly publicize exactly how they plan to dismantle democracy, that constitutes the double whammy of a double tragedy. To have full knowledge of a looming trainwreck and turn away or blindly cheer it on constitute moral and political malfeasance of the highest order. Name one disastrous current MAGA machination at odds, in spirit or letter, with what the world knew for years about Trump, campaigning, cheap shots, or oligarchic pontifications, as from Musk and Thiel.

This absolute access to facts and contexts defines today’s tragic, collective moral bind. What an insult (to us and themselves) for disgruntled millions to suddenly spit out buyers’ remorse. Too little, too late. Only truly blinkered people believed Trump could begin delivering his most dishonest whoppers on or soon after Day One: reduce prices, fix immigration, cut blue-collar taxes, improve health care, end wars and strengthen domestic manufacturing. Aside from unjust tax changes, upper echelon payola, every other pledge is exploded, indeed turned upside down. What good for the 90 percent came on Day One or since? Instead, MAGA Trump unveiled new abuses to shred the general welfare: DOGE takeaways, ICE murders and slashed funding for food support, worker safety, pollution regs, healthcare, housing, environmental monitoring and medical/science research. Need I add, revving up fossil fuel pollution, worsening climate change, humanity’s greatest trial?

The steroidal sequel: Worst than the first

Like Iran or Vietnam, DT’s re-election means America bought MAGA hook, line and sinker, shouldering inestimable liability from unfixable (invented) crisis to unfixable crisis. No refunds, no lemon law returns, no exchanges (soon) and no “insurance” to offset generational fiascos. Whether it’s surging inflation from stupid tariffs and a stupider war, ICE barbarism, attacks on media, stagnant job growth or needlessly smashing prosperity-serving allies—the bold-face handwriting is on the wall. No end in sight and no immediate penalties, like shredding MAGA political dominance. Failure is now its own reward. Handcuffs AWOL.

The big difference today: Trump, having banished first-term guardrails, goes whole hog for his inept yes-men to do his bizarre, nasty bidding. MAGA went from Willful Ignorance (think COVID) to Designer Ignorance (everything since) blind to complexity, epic consequences and pitfalls. By badly misreading daily news, gulled voters turned their back on adult prudence, common sense, political intelligence, world-class expertise and science. In short, behold an Age of Willful, Sneering Stupidity, refusing to admit errors or learn from mistakes. Nothing new here for Trump, exposing himself with vicious Birther bluster and Central Park Five slanders (never withdrawn). Paradoxically, for history’s greatest liar, Trump’s infinite desperation for attention broadcasts shameless ambition, authoritarian impulses, know-it-all opinions and foolishly premature judgments. Deluded, parlaying his unjustified superiority over everyone about everything, Trump tragically figured he could run the USA like stumbling Trump, Inc. Bad mistake for everyone, including DT.

How smart adults make smart decisions

When faced with big decisions in the rational universe, sane adults, genius or average, never presume they know everything in advance, blessed with omniscient, divine foresight. Savvy “risk management” balances the magnitude of consequences vs. current resources options plus what hard data supports, struggling with known knowns and known unknowns. Humility matters. No level of brilliance, diligence, or shrewd judgments guarantee offsets to the vagaries of complex, unpredictable dynamics. We have admittedly only partial control, without input for example where, when and to whom we are born—even what special talents we inherit and prospects to come. That’s why careful planning begins every successful program.

In contrast, MAGA Trump’s reckless “decision-making” compounds coarse prejudice and gut instincts with impulsive, wishful “thinking” that disowns facts. Initial tunnel vision bans essential planning and understanding probabilities, driven instead by fantasies of intimidation, automatic success and dominance. When everything is reduced to warfare, transient “wins” need only track surface PR. Glaringly omitted is understanding cause and effect, the only way to avoid the disaster of leaping first, measuring second. There is no greater, more inexcusable leadership flaw, whether by CEO or sports captain, dog catcher or president. Thus the unspeakable MAGA stupidity of Iran or tariffs or murder cover-ups that cost plenty and come with only downsides. Plus, the MAGA oligarchy destruction brigade keeps unearthing novel ways to devastate American greatness. A truthful motto after endless blows: Make America Gag Again.

In the end, this train-wreck mirrors the train-wreck mentality that typically seeks disruption and chaos for its own sake, fitting for ersatz mavericks. Trump, like many other MAGA losers, lives to cause mayhem, concocting rebellions against authority, order and virtue (likely fathers, too). Ludicrous lies only add confusion, upping damage. Echoing the first term, what MAGA decisions have meaningfully benefited average folks, whatever the party? By decimating even more lifeline supports, Trump proves his hypocrisy: he is the enemy, not friend to the besieged working-class. Credit GOP thugs for jerry-rigging minority power to control opening gambits (however excoriated by federal judges who say, “Eww. Can’t do that. Blatantly illegal”). Helter-skelter mayhem is how nations become defunct super-powers. Big blunders matter.

Good news only for corporate enablers, gun fans, fixated evangelicals and immigrant foes

Tax giveaways to high payers, plus deregulation that worsens worker safety, cover a multitude of sins. Those who coughed up payola have free reign for predatory media mergers, no worries about antitrust or DOJ friction and still get federal grants and subsidies. For “winners,” MAGA delivers: purchased government must serve business, deflecting lawsuits, whistle blowers or House inquiries that threaten profits or market dominance. Paying the MAGA piper is now a lead “investment”—with outcomes as predictable (and problematic) as all that voters repressed when empowering the Trump II horror show. Gosh, what could be wrong when American (and foreign) capitalists get what they pay for?  The rank payola, not free market.

As the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland quips, relevant for dead ends and dead beats, “If you don’t know where you are going, any way will get you there.” True for much of Trumpism but MAGA top brass and backers knew exactly the money destination: neutralize oversight, keep taxes low and still grab fistfuls. Wouldn’t surprise me if this White House brags about its quid pro quo, with a private, itemized price list for shady bargains. Need pardons? Price per conviction. Need “liability insurance”? Choose A or B. Want never to be attacked for bad motives, “low IQ” or connivance? Not cheap but doable, with payment plans on tap.

Bad faith can work when owning a corrupt government, even if tragedy on tragedy strikes down a once more honorable country. But this truth continues: the self-serving, corrupt dynamic that made big money transactions so predictable was as visible and accessible for small fry voters awake to reality. But that means exiting the MAGA bubble, studying reliable info, assessing real-world inputs and, hardest of all, thinking for yourself. Some day good old-fashioned, grassroots self-interest will find its brain—and send MAGA packing.
