It is against the law for federal judges to hear cases when they own stock in a party. But state supreme court justices, in North Carolina and elsewhere, are not held to the same standard.

In a formal announcement this week, Governor Robert Bentley of Alabama apologized to the government of India after a brutal assault by an officer left a 57-year-old Indian man visiting America partially paralyzed. Bentley said "justice would be served."

"This an obvious attempt at political intimidation."

Having American troops occupy Iraq for 8 years, humiliating its citizens and torturing people in military prisons, was a bad idea. Did Bush and Cheney model for the Kouashi brothers how you take what you want and rub out people who get in your way?

At what point, does neglect in the face of injustice and abuse become complicity? If a Government allows illegal detention and the violation of international justice to take place and says and acts not, are they not guilty in aiding and abetting such actions?

I think it’s really important for federal authorities to show their ability to tackle this. When it comes down to it, the government must show that it can protect American democracy, through force if necessary.
