Let's explore a fictitious scenario in which every person who wanted to be considered for a government job would have to take both a lie detector and a mental test, and pass them, to be accepted.

In normal times, we often see a gradual chipping away of basic rights like we’ve seen in the trials of Julian Assange, where a narrative, some of it true, a lot of it based on character assassination and outright lies, has been built over time, denying the publisher the presumption of innocence.

An America Trump might have loved...

After all—god save us—he might even find himself in the White House for a second term (if the coronavirus or Bernie Sanders doesn’t take him down first).

"Every time the U.S. wants to start a new war, it does it the same way, which is, it invents some really inflammatory, emotionally wrenching lie that gets people to hate the government they want to topple so much that they set their rationality aside and support the war."

News reporting is, without a doubt, extremely important. But that is just not enough, we also need these T.V. channels to go a step further and expand their horizons.

We must not allow our pain to be weaponized against each other. We must not be seduced by fear or manipulative stories.

Expect these evidence free smears to continue and for more well funded groups like the Integrity Initiative to appear in the future, claiming to be fighting disinformation while engaging in it themselves, often against their own citizens or those of allied countries.

The rest of us remain in a world wallpapered with Donald Trump, a world in which the fake news media, which is his truest "base," just can’t get enough of him.
