The nuclear industry and nuclear power advocates in government are “desperately trying to hold on.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI last week charged the speaker of the Ohio House of Representative and four others in a scheme to use ratepayers money to keep two decrepit nuclear power plants operating.

According to the Japan Times, the public cost of cleaning up the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster topped ¥4.2 trillion (roughly $628 billion) as of March and is expected to keep climbing.
