The last thing we need are fresh examples of powerful politicians opting for self-serving actions over democratic principles.
It will no doubt feel to many on the left that a strategy that’s less reliant on national leadership is too slow and requires more work on the part of voters to not only become activists, but to participate in local elections and make an effort to look at the records and policy proposals of down ballot candidates in national ones.

A successful progressive campaign needs to have the right message and agenda and the right relationship between a candidate with vision and credibility and longer-term progressive infrastructure.
But with the coronavirus plague sweeping the country, Biden and Bernie should take the time to negotiate a coalition platform and even write the new laws on which they can both agree.
There is a path forward for progressives even if Biden wins the nomination, but if Sanders wins, progressives need to show the rest of the country that he’s not a scary boogeyman, and he really can represent all Americans.
