It is “disappointing to see” Democrats back away from the pledge, but adds that as long as social movements sustain pressure, “it will be a priority for the Biden administration, should they win in November.”
In the meantime, with the encouragement of leaders like AOC, what is arguably the largest youth movement since the 1960s is taking shape to finally put the climate crisis front and center in U.S. politics.
The leading force behind this wave of action is an organization called Sunrise Movement, which launched in 2016 with the immediate goal of making ambitious climate action a key issue in last year’s midterm elections.

The chief problem with our most comprehensive movements (Sunrise and the PPC) isn't what they do, but what they fail to SAY – and this problem is best exemplified by their failure to condemn a Venezuelan coup that VOMITS on their stated aims.
"So, essentially, Nancy Pelosi is reviving a 10-year-old committee, the Select Committee for the Climate Crisis, but we find that it’s actually woefully and inexcusably short – falls short of what we need in this moment in terms of climate ambition in this crucial juncture in history."
"It's everything we feared."
