While Americans watched stock prices tumble across the globe in Monday’s market turmoil, economist Michael Hudson joins Democracy Now to help make sense of what’s really behind the fluctuations in the market.

The United States and China are polar opposites when it comes to many things like war, the economy, and power. The U.S. was once the economic power of the world, but China seems to be flourishing while the U.S. is diminishing.

Our government is a dysfunctional, corporate-ruled mess with a massive debt that has gotten out of control. “A massive tsunami, a mega-powerful financial tidal wave, is growing in intensity off the shores of America” and only we can stop the chaos that seems inevitable.

In his speech after the summit, Obama asserted that his Arab guests were reassured about his Iran negotiations, and he reaffirmed US commitment to their security. He also chastised Iran for “meddling” in the region.

The U.S. and its citizens are inundated with massive debt as a nation, government, and society. It seems like an impossibility to get this issue under control, especially when a majority of funding goes directly to endless wars.

A role reversal has occurred in this world as China is quickly surpassing the US in the innovative and economic world. With its increasing wealth, China is expanding its existence throughout the world.

The threat of war in the U.S. leaves American citizens in a state of frustration along with the rest of the world. Those who hold the power in the U.S. government, however, are far from war-weary.

The United States, originally founded on standards of ethics and morality, is currently on its way to world domination. Unfortunately, American citizens are left feeling helpless and struggling financially and the path U.S. government is taking will make it worse.
