Trump Would Be a Climate Killer

Donald Trump is so consistently inconsistent, the challenge is to remind folks that what he says one minute that may seem appealing is often contradicted in the next minute.

When it comes to the climate, we don’t have that problem. Trump has made it crystal clear he would let the planet fry.

On Thursday, Trump spoke to the North Dakota Petroleum Council. There would be no “Sista Souljah” moment.

“A Trump administration will focus on real environmental challenges, not the phony ones,” he said, a clear reference to global warming, which he has long called a “hoax”.

He then laid out a “100-day action plan” which involves junking every morsel of what President Barack Obama has done to avert a climate crisis: “We’re going to rescind all the job-destroying Obama executive actions including the Climate Action Plan … We’re going to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs … Any regulation that is outdated, unnecessary, bad for workers, or contrary to the national interest will be scrapped.”

Interestingly, his prepared remarks called for him to say about renewable energy: “This includes renewable energies and the technologies of the future. It includes nuclear, wind and solar energy – but not to the exclusion of other energy.” But in his actual speech, he ad-libbed, surely from the heart, “other forms energy that right now are working much better.”

Environmentalists may debate over whether Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders would be better on climate. But what is indisputable is that both accept climate science and propose policies based on science that would cut carbon pollution.

Trump, on the other hand, is pure poison for the planet. Period.
