Kavitha Surana is a senior reporting fellow at ProPublica covering immigration. Previously, she covered immigration, counterterrorism and border security policy at Foreign Policy magazine. She has also reported on Europe’s migration crisis from Italy and Germany for publications like Al Jazeera, Quartz, OZY and Global Post thanks to a Fulbright journalism fellowship and a Heinrich Böll Foundation grant to report on migration and integration in Europe. She holds a master’s degree in journalism and European studies from New York University and got her start in journalism interning at the Associated Press bureau in Rome and CNN.
