The petition urges the agency to address the various categories of toxic pollutants that have been linked to cancer and many other health and environmental concerns.

It is a million times higher than what the agency usually considers acceptable for new chemicals and six times worse than the risk of lung cancer from a lifetime of smoking.

Corporate polluters and their political allies have sought to slow and derail anti-pollution laws, often using the exact same arguments and wording.

The herbicides were re-registered by the EPA without full consideration of the risks or consultation with wildlife agencies—the experts—as the Endangered Species Act requires.

"It puts our Nation’s wetlands – rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds connected to them – at risk of pollution and destruction, jeopardizing the sources of clean water that millions of American families, farmers, and businesses rely on."

"There's now no question that neonicotinoids play an outsized role in our heartbreaking extinction crisis," said one advocate. The EPA must "ban these pesticides so future generations don't live in a world without bees and butterflies and the plants that depend on them."

But methylene chloride’s fumes are so dangerous, the chemical can kill you in a matter of minutes.

“There are communities waiting for (toxic) sites to get cleaned up. They are waiting for infrastructure to be built so their communities don’t flood.”

That risk is 250,000 times greater than the level usually considered acceptable by the EPA division that approves new chemicals, and it’s higher than the lifetime risk of cancer for current smokers.

“This action has the potential to prevent tens of thousands of PFAS-related illnesses and marks a major step toward safeguarding all our communities from these dangerous contaminants.”
