Why would any civilized nation allow assault weapons to be sold, as we do, to anyone when no other Western nation does?

A bevy of new gun laws kicked in January 1. Later this year another law kicks in to force public universities to allow licensed gun owners to carry their guns on campus.

While it is also true that gun laws differ in all 50 states in America, President Obama’s gun control policy strengthens existing laws, and not only helps to shape the future of gun safety technology but also prohibit the mentally insane from possessing a firearm.

This year, national liberal groups are pushing ballot measures to tackle issues, such as gun control, marijuana legalization and increasing the minimum wage, that prove popular in polls but that politicians have generally avoided.

"We maybe can't save everybody, but we can save some."

The announcement is expected to come sometime before the annual State of the Union address.

President Obama is fed up with Congress blocking every attempt at enacting new gun control measures. He is now taking steps to try to close gun loopholes without them.

What must not be lost sight of is that the San Bernardino shooters had legally bought assault rifles, and it was the assault rifles that allowed them to commit this carnage.

There have been more mass shootings in the United States than days this year. When will real changes be made to stop the violence?

Are smart guns the answer to prevent future mass shootings and other acts of gun violence? First we need legislation to come to the point where curtailing gun-violence is a reality.
