The shabbier and more senseless the war...the more hollow its objectives and justifications...the more one-sided our advantage...the more distorted the news from the front...the more random the casualties on all sides.

It’s time we as a nation gave some thought to and did some penance for all those civilian deaths and combatant deaths as we remember 9-11.

Although its precise scale is hard to measure, violent white supremacy is clearly a problem in the United States. 

New reports show an escalation in civilian casualties from U.S. operations in Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia — and a pattern of U.S. denial about the scale of the problem.

What President Trump is actually proposing simply removes the most visible aspect – the troops – while continuing the bombing of eight countries and secret counter terrorism operations across almost half the globe.

All told, it should be clear that another kind of grand plan is needed to deal with the threat of terrorism both globally and to Americans – one that relies on a far smaller U.S. military footprint and costs far less blood and treasure.
