Treading water, Biden needs what energizes progressives: vision

Rethugs corrupt politics as war,/ Sucker punching with doom, gloom and gore.

How odd a scandal-free president,
Who crushed the Orange Deviant
With a seven million vote accent,
Endures such low popular consent.

With Biden approval in the tank,
His PR handlers deserve the yank;
The Mid-term makes all too clear
Winners need vision to domineer.

How lame Yank “exceptionalism”
When nearly all want core revisions.
Could not pitching systemic reform
Fuel a progressive firestorm?

While off-shore mayhem remains perverse,
Stateside, Biden could be far worse.
Decent bills get passed, crises reduced,
Zero crimes against the state induced.

And yet Democratic outreach stinks,
One reason its power is jinxed;
Still, Biden’s “presidential” status quo
Humiliates Trump’s loser sh-tshow.

Lost winnable races should educate –
But Trump’s addicted to rage and hate.
Rethugs corrupt politics as war,
Sucker punching with doom, gloom and gore.

The right’s “vision” will never cohere,
Because reality won’t disappear,
Parading showmen “to entertain”
And hide its ugly, vicious campaign.

Sleazy arm-twisting sells the brand –
Bad “faith” envenoms the heartland;
Demonizing the voting booth,
A defamation, where still lives truth.

That hands Democrats splendid chances,
To puncture terror with sharpened lances;
The left furnishes systemic vision –
Primed to impact the next collision.

For over a decade, Robert S. Becker's independent, rebel-rousing essays on politics and culture analyze overall trends, history, implications, messaging and frameworks. He has been published widely, aside from Nation of Change and RSN, with extensive credits from OpEdNews (as senior editor), Alternet, Salon, Truthdig, Smirking Chimp, Dandelion Salad, Beyond Chron, and the SF Chronicle. Educated at Rutgers College, N.J. (B.A. English) and U.C. Berkeley (Ph.D. English), Becker left university teaching (Northwestern, then U. Chicago) for business, founding SOTA Industries, a top American high end audio company he ran from '80 to '92. From '92-02, he was an anti-gravel mining activist while doing marketing, business and writing consulting. Since then, he seeks out insight, even wit in the shadows, without ideology or righteousness across the current mayhem of American politics.
