The Great Appalling Grift (GAG) finally short-circuits: Even the “dumbest group of voters,” per Trump, are finally shocked, shocked to find they’ve been manipulated in the extreme.
1998, snarky, mouthy Trump, People Magazine: If I were to run, I’d run as a Republican. They’re the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they’d still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific.
2025, July headline: Cornered, mouthy Trump lashes out at [MAGA] backers over Epstein debacle: ‘I don’t want their support anymore!’
Having lost control of the Epstein story, the president is condemning his own [“stupid”] MAGA supporters and allies as [“foolish”]“weaklings” who have fallen for a “hoax.”
What! Finally, yet once again, the Trump hoax machine bites itself in the ass, stung by relentless, blatant lies, slanders, broken promises and hoaxes. He’s still lying but fewer are “eating it up.” Double-whammy. First, there’s trial evidence of past dirty secrets, even depravity, and now a badly botched cover-up. Has the betrayed MAGA world suddenly lurched to its senses? How dense must one be to assume NO highly incriminating revelations buried in the Epstein mess? MAGA marks are only the last to internalize who Trump is.
Light years beyond irony, Donald the reckless playboy not only brought his own sexual swamp to D.C. but now maligns his own hijacked loyalists as sworn enemies. How dare true believers buy into bullshit unauthorized by Trump, Inc., let alone express the gall to feel betrayed? Fiery, alienated MAGA supporters, forever seeking revenge against “manipulative, controlling, evil elites protected by money,” are now “bad people,” and worse: stupid “weaklings who “bought into this bullshit.” The nerrrve! Do we hear a tectonic schism as MAGA reframes its alleged messiah as epic hypocrite, using money, fame, and power to obscure unkillable transgressions.
What underling allowed the aggrieved fans to think for themselves—for this W. H., nothing less than heresy compounded with disloyalty? So, under unprecedented pressure from his teeth-gnashing cult (still only demanding enablers be fired), Trump has ineptly, even irrationally managed to expose the full fraudulence of his used-up, sordid, implausible conspiracies. After all, hoaxes span Birtherism, Benghazi, Pizzagate, southern invasions by terrorists and rapists, 2020 election fraud, Hunter-Biden laptop—and more. The latest outlandish whopper: that Dems purposely created the sin-infested Epstein file.
So what does a cornered, exposed, criminal opportunist do when caught out—go ballistic, thus disclosing the entirety of the massive hoax that is Trumpism. The emperor isn’t just naked but in the brightest spotlight on the most national center stage—spewing out more backfiring bad faith. Falling by the wayside, cultists now must rethink their own twisted fantasy: Trump as the anti-elitist, straight-shooter who tells it like it is. On top of six months of popularity-killing blundering, reality is outing Trump—blowing apart obsolete fix-it moves.
If pride invites a fall, that goes double for failed grifters
Trump over-reach has never been clearer—along with seething outrage because he can’t control this chapter of immoral, scandalous cover-ups. The truth is, quality con artists do everything to squelch exposure—and the more public the platform, the greater the disaster. The best scams mandate secreting the underhanded manipulation forever, the objective being invisibility cemented by silence. That way impoverished marks have no practical come-back. The point of cosmic grifts, like all criminal theft, blackmail or embezzlement, is to grab the treasure and run, avoiding disclosure like the plague. Advertising your own scam is suicidal.
So what does the insular Pretend President losing it do? The worst thing imaginable: he expands visibility by suing the legendary Wall Street Journal and Murdock entities for confirming a sleazy, depraved Trump note to Epstein colluding about dirty secrets. By calling the WSJ a “pile of garbage” and a “filthy and disgusting rag,” Trump projection only reveals how much he knows about filth and garbage. Even ludicrous slander redounds against him. Going global guarantees not only even wider exposure but, worst of all, a no-win scandal on all front pages for months. What exposes growing cognitive decline, if not alleged perversions, more than publicizing his own sex scandals? Suing Murdock pours gasoline on a conflagration. Irony of ironies, this scandal did not have to see the light of day. Really, one can’t invent this stuff.
In fact, time, digging and history will almost always expose the grossest, most insupportable public lies, distortions and conspiracy propaganda. Divided voters may never agree on “consensual truth” but even the dumbest Magat, enduring staggeringly bad policies that increase inflation, worsen trade, and impugn key allies, is beginning to realize billionaire, reckless playboy Trump is not on their side. He’s now actively burying promised transparency that could expose vile, privileged, elitist fat cats who abused young girls.
Even the intimidated mass media, under siege by Trump lawsuits and belligerent barrages, cannot avoid repeating demands by the MAGA base to come clean about lurid, personal associations. If Trump had nothing to hide, then why the costly cover-up, trumpeted by fury against his own base, insulting them as if they were bad faith liberal Democratic critics, scorned foreign allies, even enemies of the Trump state (“L’État, c’est moi” or “I am the state”)? As usual, the ham-fisted cover-up is as bad as or worse than any original crimes. MAGA skeptics won’t go Democratic but could stay home in droves next —and big losses will handcuff Trump’s anti-democratic abuses. We could have four or five more impeachments, screw Senate cowardice.
The most infamous ex-Trump fixer turns superb scribbler
Michael Cohen at Meidas provides a fitting, biting summary with “MAGA Mob Turns On Their Messiah,” subtitled, “When even MAGA’s most loyal conspiracy peddlers turn on Trump over the Epstein files, it’s not justice they crave; it’s revenge for being played like fools:”
. . .“the one thing [Trump] can’t dodge forever is the truth. And right now, the Epstein file debacle is dragging it out of the shadows like a blacklight in a crime scene. Even the conspiracy addicts—the flag-draped, MAGA-merch-wearing foot soldiers of Trumpism—are starting to see it for what it is. But don’t mistake this for some kind of awakening. It’s not morality driving this backlash; it’s buyer’s remorse.. . .
These people were fine being lied to—so long as the lie made them feel special. But now they’ve been lumped in with the “fake news” crowd they’ve spent years mocking. The gaslighters have become the gaslit.
. . . he stopped telling them what they wanted to hear. They weren’t betrayed by Trump. They were betrayed by their own need to believe in him.”
One awaits with political and moral satisfaction the magnitude of the damage to a presidency on the rocks, needlessly demolished with reckless tariffs, higher inflation, and shredding popular, even essential government programs. What viable escape hatches remain for a loser now facing mounting scandals? Even if and when more dramatic Epstein data are released, incriminating to Trump or not, the intimate kinship (as best friends?) between the self-degraded president and the infamous child predator can only torpedo Trump’s worst dictatorial excesses. Gosh, might even spineless Rethugs desert him, refusing to go down with disintegrating ship of defenseless perversions?
Behold the causes here: not wary Dems but countless, inevitable betrayals that instigate the first ever great MAGA schism. The cornered Trump now sets himself against the cult marks he worked so hard, for so many decades and so many billions, to render them incapable of thinking for itself, let alone facing his massive contradictions, hypocrisy and evil-doing. If only to check the nasty demolition underway, one wishes the midterm was this year. I foresee that for “ambushed,” purple-districted Rethugs, there will be hell to pay for horrifically hellish politics.
