What Americans should be asking their government is this: Why are there still 2,500 U.S. troops in Iraq?

Four looming flashpoints facing President Trump

The U.S. should not be in the Middle East, but the U.S. government will not be pulling out troops when there is still oil and natural gas there. At some point in time, other countries will get so tired of this endless war they will step in to put an end to it.

President Donald J. Trump has proven to be more partisan than Mr. Obama in his backing of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Israel and his confrontational approach of Iran.

The reality is that it has largely been the U.S. that has been the aggressor through the terrifying and costly decades of the Cold War that this latest treaty exit action threatens to re-ignite.

Instead, we need to spend this huge totally wasted share of our national wealth on our own long neglected social needs and on saving this country and world from an increasingly obvious looming environmental catastrophe.
