The president’s “unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist does great violence to our Constitution and makes America less safe, stealing from urgently needed defense funds for the security or our military and our nation.”

The bill includes nearly $1.4 billion to build 55 miles of new border barriers out of steel, far less than the $5.7 billion requested by President Trump.

Wall are cropping up all over the world. But as with guns, the sense of safety and security that comes from a wall is almost entirely illusory.

The resolution called the razor wire "not only irresponsible, but inhumane" and argues that this type of wall "is only found in a war, prison or battle setting."

As long as the United States keeps coming up with new ways to fortify the border, people will keep coming up with new ways to beat the border.

Sen. Bernie Sanders called out the president for lying to the American people and creating a false crisis at the border.

"Mr. President, we don’t need to create artificial crises. We have enough real ones. Let us end this shutdown and bring the American people together around an agenda that will improve life for all of our people."
