GOP lawmakers advance legislation to penalize the International Criminal Court, despite opposition from the White House and Democratic leaders.

The ICC has been building a case against Israel for nearly a decade.

The warrants for Israel’s top leaders, which must still be approved by a panel of ICC judges, are “a watershed event in the history of international justice,” says war crimes prosecutor Reed Brody.

A panel of ICC judges will determine whether to issue arrest warrants for any of the suspects. President Biden criticized the ICC’s actions as “outrageous.”

This stern admonition, aimed directly at the ICC's prosecutor, comes as the court contemplates charges against Israeli officials for alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

While investigating allegations of torture and forced rectal feedings committed by CIA officers, the ICC is currently determining whether to prosecute any U.S. citizens responsible for committing war crimes.
