We speak with a reporter who smuggled herself into northern Yemen to report on the widespread famine and devastation there.

“Am I pleased that the 12 children and their coach in Thailand were rescued? Of course I am. I just wish that an equivalent effort was being made to rescue each of the 50,000 children we will kill today, tomorrow, the next day and the day after that….”

The ugly face of this senseless war, as in most contemporary conflicts involving large aerial campaigns, is often hidden behind closed doors.

This slaughter has already lasted nearly 16 years. It will not cease until the United States is exhausted and withdraws its forces from the region.

The problem isn’t that the U.S. is standing by and doing nothing while this horror unfolds. It’s much worse than that.

U.S.-backed Saudi aggression is stoking anti-American sentiment in Yemen.

Just as we are trying to get Congress to take action on gun control, so we must demand that Congress act to stop the US support for mass murder in Yemen.  

Selling weapons to Saudi Arabia has consequences. The intense anti-U.S. sentiment in Yemen should be a wake-up call for Americans.

Trump should use his trip to put a halt to weapons sales and press the Saudis to sit with neighboring countries to find new political solutions.

The solutions to this major crisis, and indeed many of our problems, would naturally flow from the recognition of the fact that we are brothers and sisters of one humanity.
