Trump can’t fix anything, certainly not his own credibility and lost leverage, and that makes his tenure a fusillade of fixations repeated ad infinitum.

If Garland indicates he has not conducted an investigation of Trump and he has no plans to do so, even after receiving the Jan. 6 committee’s full report, Biden should fire him immediately and begin the search for a new, highly competent individual who will properly conduct the Justice Dept. business.

The only way out of this crisis of governance is for us – the vast majority of Americans who deserve and know better – to take charge.

Unless or until progressives start to recognize the cost of losing the underpopulated red states in Middle America, ultra-right-wing Republicans will continue to have power in Washington all out of proportion to the popular will.

This significant legal victory was obtained not only in the chambers Supreme Court but through years of organizing at the grass-roots, in the media and in the halls of the Texas Legislature.

This may not be the practical political thing to do. But it is the right thing to do.
