It’s not social spending that’s causing the federal deficit to soar. It’s Republican tax cuts, especially on corporations and the wealthy.

These captains of American capitalism are brazenly ignoring their responsibility to their own nation, a nation in desperate need of funding for education and infrastructure and job training.

We hardly even see these super-rich who hold that 1/10 of 1% of our nation's wealth. They don't live anywhere near where we live. They don't usually eat in the places we eat. Sadly, they say that in our country 'Royalty is dead' ... well, it isn't and never was.

In other words, seriously taxing the rich will always be impossible. So why bother even trying?

My conclusion: Incentives just don’t work.

In the most extreme form of capitalism taxes do not exist. This is called "anarcho-capitalism." Among all corporations, Amazon may be the leading advocate of this philosophy.

A Center for Public Integrity analysis suggests the timing of big donations may be more than a coincidence.

The total amount of tax would be $8.426 trillion. At present, the federal government spends $4.407 trillion annually. The wealth tax would be nearly twice as large.
