There are people in Washington who say the Green New Deal is too expensive and we can’t afford it. What is the alternative? A planet which is burning up?

If emission reductions are large and sustained, we can still meet the Paris goals and avoid the most severe damage to the natural world, the economy and people. But worryingly, we also have time to make it far worse.

It is “disappointing to see” Democrats back away from the pledge, but adds that as long as social movements sustain pressure, “it will be a priority for the Biden administration, should they win in November.”

“We’ve long known that as climate change takes hold, the effects would be especially pronounced in the Arctic.”

“Our data indicate that with the continued growth of greenhouse gas emissions, the temperature effects of climate change are projected to be five times deadlier than recent U.S. flu seasons."
